Sampled at the 2009 Parkville microbrew festival. Pours black with a dense dark beige head. Has a sorghum and molasses aroma. Simply and amazing scent. Very thick palate. The flavor is super sweet up front and the finish has a level of tartness that makes me question if this is even at its final gravity.

On tap. Aroma of milk chocolate, earthy hops, and alcohol. Maroon color with a smallish head. Taste is honey, milk chocolate and earthy & floral hops. Smooth mouthfeel.

Snifter at the brewpub. Sweet, bubblegum aroma, roasty and grainy with notes of faint chocolate, smoke, floral hops and sugary malts. Opaque red-black color with a fine, tan head. Flavor is fruity and sugary, roasty and full of berryish sweetness, roasty, toasty malts, milky chocolate, cola and cherryish tartness on the finish. Toasted honey and estery yeast tones linger. Exceedingly smooth, thick mouthfeel, low in effervescence, with a rich, full body. Interesting stuff, if a bit overly sweet, ultimately, and completely unrecognizable for the style.

Pours dead and syrupy, oh so thick out the bottle. Color is thick dark brown. Everything about the pour just screams THICK! There are just some light brown edges otherwise its a brick of brown. Aroma is strong with prune and chocolate booze. Its also extremely earthy with some muddy leaves. Its actually like a Scotch ale/barleywine mix. Taste is sweeter than expected from the aroma. It has some light tropical fruits and dark bread. Despite a thick mouthfeel its rather easy going down.
32oz fill up from brewpub, Regenboog chalice.

Gregis (1255) - Shawnee, Kansas, USA - SEP 1, 2008
Pours a deep opaque brown with a thin beige skin and spotty lace. The nose is of sweet malt, baker’s chocolate and dark fruit; comes across "thinner" than a typical barley wine. Light to medium-bodied and grainy with a dry, lightly boozy finish. Dry, fruity dark malt and chocolate with a slightly vinous quality; fairly boozy at the finish. A decent brew that’s OK on it’s own but does NOT pair well with brewpub food. I do have to commend Nick for trying this one. There aren’t many small brewpubs out there that are brewing a wheat wine.

UPDATED: AUG 29, 2008 12 oz pour on draft at the Brew Pub. Pour is deep black, only faint ruby highlights. Small tan head. Interesting settling on pour, almost looked like a nitro pour. Aroma of raisin and sweet sugar. Taste is big initially on the sweet sugar in the front, more prune raisin in the middle, and some oily soy sauce in the end. The palate is thin and pretty slick. Overall, this beer was interesting, though it didn’t really remind me of any other Wheat Wine I have had.
