3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Rciesla (5499) - Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA - OCT 13, 2009
Under the name Oktoberfest at 75th street. Pours an amber body with a white head. Dry musky floral hoppiness. Sweet lemon notes and a dull fruit body and a grainy cereal malt finish. Not positive but this may have been a new beer.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Indra (2361) - Overland Park, Kansas, USA - DEC 16, 2008
Draft at the brewpub. Strongly malty, fruity aroma, plenty of dark brown sugar, caramel and grape, with notable alcohol, floral spice and yeast characters. Deep amber color, mostly clear, with a fine, subsiding head. Flavor is likewise strongly malty and fruity, darkly sweet and estery, toasty and sugary, moderately bitter and finishing on a decidedly alcoholic bent. Lingering maple sugar and tangy, herbal hop flavors. Finely carbonated and substantially hefty palate, body is also quite full. Pretty nice and drinkable for all that, ultimately.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 bleeng (1131) - Houston nowhere near Beersel, Texas, USA - NOV 20, 2008
Sample only because the keg was flaky. Yellow and filtered. Sweet and viscous with strong alcohol component. Nice hop profile but needs some malt background. Very warming and toasty. A pint would have kicked me in the groin.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 tjthresh (1848) - Greenfield, Indiana, USA - OCT 27, 2008
On tap at the brewpub. The pour is basicly brown with some off white head. Toasted and cara malts with assertive hop chatacter in the nose. Lots of buttery caramel and toasty malts with quite a bit of bitter herbal nobel hops. Quite good. Thick palate with low carbonation. Semisweet finish. This beer is well done. If you like Avery the Kaiser, it compares favorablly.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Gregis (1255) - Shawnee, Kansas, USA - OCT 26, 2008
Full pour at the brewpub. Pours a dark brewed tea brown with a reddish tint. The nose is sweet, toasty malt with a lightly sour fruitiness in support. The palate is on the light side of medium-bodied and just slightly grainy with a bit of alcohol warmth at the finish. Grainy caramel and toasty/biscuity malt with a healthy dose of alcohol at the finish (especially as it warms). This is an interestingly amped-up and ’’warm’’ version of a usually quaffable style.
