acrdz (4486), Boulder, Colorado, USA May 23, 2004 Deep brown with a dark tan head. Rich and very smoky, but lacking much beyond that. Stale malt flavor behind the smoke and evident very strongly in the finish. Rich coffee nose with some chocolate, very nice.
BlackDonald (1039), North Carolina, USA Jun 4, 2008 Pours an oily black with a creamy off white, almost tan head. Roasted malty nose, with a palate that is quite thin, slightly over-roasted coffee notes. quite thin and watery. Has one of those lignering aftertastes that you wish would just go away. theisti (1166), Leawood, Kansas, USA Aug 3, 2007 Updated: Nov 19, 2007Pint draft at the brew pub. Pour is all black with a nice khaki head. Aroma is coffee and roasted malt. The flavor is more of the coffee roast, though not quite as pronounced as the nose. After a few sips, the roastiness fades, and it is a pretty basic, though highly drinkable. stout. A bit thin on the palate. Highlight was the aroma, which was nice. Gregis (937), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Jun 7, 2007 Pours a deep brown with a creamy, nitrogenated head. The aroma is pretty decent for a nitro-pushed stout, primarily chocolate and light coffee. The mouthfeel is the typical Guinness-like light/medium body and creaminess with a light bitter coffee finish. The flavor follows suit, but while the aroma surprised me, the flavor let me down. Given a choice between this and Guinness, I’d probably choose the latter. vyvvy (1775), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Apr 19, 2007 On tap at the brewpub. Pours almost black with a tight dense tan head. The aroma has roasted malt with some milk and cream traits. Thin body that’s quite watery with some very soft / gentle carbonation. The flavor starts with roasted malt, but watered down. The finish is still roasty and lightly better. Fairly boring, but I’m not a big Irish Stout fan anyway. cbrixius (136), Newberrytown, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 22, 2007 On draft at the brewery, which happened to be the first day open after fire damage. This was my second beer after the IPA and while it wasn’t as n good, it was definitely better than the ratings appear. Poured opaque with a half inch Guinness-style head. Very creamy texture with an almost smoky background. I hope that wasn’t due to the fire. Didn’t really get the chocolate flavors that others have noted, just milky malted goodness.
