Sample at the brewpub. Pours a mostly clear amber color with gold around the edges. Medium off-white head that dissipates steadily, and spotty lacing. Aroma of apple cider, sweet malt and yeast. Medium-bodied and smooth with sweet malt and spice flavors, along with touches of hops and yeast. The finish is slick and fruity with a yeast aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Sample at GABF 2007. Pours darks reddish amber in color with a thick small-bubbled silky off white head that laces up well. I get plenty of chocolate and raisins from the aroma. Tastes very rich and thick with cocoa and wine fruitiness. Good fruity esters to the lingering finish.

16 oz. draft at the brew pub. Pour is a clear auburn, with not too much of an off white head. Aroma of nutty - slightly sweet malt with some Belgian yeast present. Taste is very soft on the palate, with the malt featuring, and the Belgian yeastiness (clove, slight banana) carrying the middle and finish. Overall, a decent beer.

Pours the color of clear iced tea with a small, creamy, off-white head. Heavy malt and Belgian yeast notes on the nose; definite aroma of banana. Medium-bodied, creamy and soft with a smooth finish. This tastes quite a bit like a full-bodied dunkelweizen (less the wheat notes). Toasty malts, banana, and faint clove all come out in the flavor. Using the same yeast strain as Ex Desparatus, but without the hop backing found in that beer, the Reverend is primarily a showcase for that yeast. In my opinion, it’s worth showcasing, as this is one of the better beers I’ve had from 75th Street.
