UPDATED: JUL 31, 2012 Had the privilege of another bottle. All I can say was that for a kiwi beer this is awesome, absolutely stunning.

Would I like another one? Sure! Medium head that is lasting forever. Fruity, malty aroma that brings your imagination of having the first beer outside at the springtime. You can understand that it’s kind of heavy beer from the first taste impressions - they are a little bit sweer as usual with strong beers, but within a second it’s gone and replaced with the really nice bitterness that lasts and lasts.

When I say clear, I mean that through the part of this beer that I could see, there was no haze: deep mahogany colour with tawny port tinges. A soft creamy-green colour to the head that sat happily on this beer and left good lace. The smell is something unique: spicy aromatic, herbal and unctuous. Plenty of mellow hop and spun caramel, apricot, nectarine and peach tart. So so rich. Wow. To taste it is full bodied, spicy and rich. Plenty of sticky date sweetness. While there is an initial burst of hop greenness, it softens and then develops into a chlorophyll tang that squats in the middle of the tongue and refuses to move. Then the beer develops a marmalade character, sweet and bitter at the same time with candied peel. I doubt my review has done this beer an adequate justice. I can only add that as it left my mouth I thought I heard strains of Verdi. (What a poofter you may point out: mere beer snobbery and fanciful lingo. Well you can either taste it for yourself or come here and say that and see what happens). Just WOW.

500ml bottle. ½ pt Shaker glass. Enjoyed on agt´12. Pours dark amber in color, golden reddish brown to the light. Beige, medium sized bubbled, froth creates creamy crown. Fairly good retention leaves lacing rings on sides & thin lasting layer on top. Nice aromas of Caramel & Chocolate malts, ripe cherries, figs & dates, with subtle herbal notes. Flavor profile shows sweet toasted malts, toffee, ripe & dried fruits followed by sharp bitterness. Full body. Soft carbonation. Oily texture. Hints of licorice in the middle lingers with underlying bitter cocoa into a long sweet malty finish. Coffee hues & resins on the aftertaste. ABV well hidden allows an easy & refreshing drinkability.

OK, so this aims to be a menage a trois between three of my all time favourites. And it does not disappoint. The balls-out hops are suitably tempered by the similarly testicularly external malts. Suffice to say, I find this rather drinkable.

500 ml bottle 21/5/2012. Pours clear amber brown with good tan head. Aroma of alcohol, tangerine fruitiness, peach, toffee, wood, bitumen (sorry does kinda smell like newly resurfaced road with deep inhalation guessing it’s the complexity). Bitterness, tart like baobab, smooth, sweet tangerine, bitter hops not overwhelming, smooth toffee. Smooth long lasting flavour, medium to full bodied. Creamy aftertaste. Well balanced mixture. Well done, like it.

Aroma suave de pasas y uvas. Muy oscura por un ’amber’. Sabor de caramelo, quemado, tostada, pasas y regaliz. Bien rica! Muy buen cuerpo. Excelente.

500mL bottle and is listed as Imperial amber ale. Pours deep dark cherry red with a tan head and an amazing tropical fruit aroma followed by a toffee/chocolate malt. The flavour in the beer... wow so complex, so much going on. Tropical fruit on the tip of the tounge followed by a big bitter hop resin hit and then a creamy warming chocolate as it rolls down the back of the throat. I cant believe we got this beer in australia and i’m so glad we did, ill be back for more.

#1550. Bedankt Antoine. 50 cl. fles @ Delirium Hoppy Loft. Iets vollere mondgevoel,… heerlijk, interessant, goed gedaan,… prachtig ... euwsome.

Bottle 50 cl, BBE 03/2014. Pours dark clear brown in color with a small off-white head. Sweet green leafs , notes of hard fudge and light smokiness in aroma. Later on also some quite the bready malty vibes on the nose. Nice, soft and silky-sweet mouthfeel. Light wooden notes, butterscotch sweetness in taste with underlying notes of pine and grape, but they are very well disguised. Exquisite brew really. You feel the warming of the alcohol for awhile before some sweeter notes takes charge and eventually the piney and grape bitterness appears towards the finish, they’re quite gentle though. Feels like so much is going in this beer. Even a bit of slightly burnt nuttyness in the end. Highly enjoyable with a nice and warming vinous touch. Awesome.
