From bottle. Dark brown with decent tan head. Aroma is quite sweet, smoke comes through with a nice balance of oak and caramel. Taste is similar, a pleasant marriage of oak and smoke. Quite fizzy, clean finish. Nice

This one a beauty. Lots of smoke, oak, vanilla and rasins. Taste is similar with some spice in there. Just a little light in body if to be picky. Try with pork crackle. This is a great Porter from 8 Wired
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20 Lunkie (1129) - Glen Iris, AUSTRALIA - JUN 9, 2011
Burnt smokey malt aroma. Dark brown black colour with excellent head and lacing. Smooth palate, with roast malt aftertaste. Would have rated this one higher, but it’s a tad too smokey for me.

Draught at Galbraiths Alehouse (Auckland). One of those beers which I thought I just didn’t get at first, but before I knew it, I was staring at the bottom of my glass. My consciousness is obviously not getting what my sub-consciousness is. Struggled to get over the vanilla from the oak and (the not so good) memories of bourbon and coke. The smoke that I love of this beer was tuck away under a thoughts of ice and a straw. But that’s my brain talking. My heart (and maybe more importantly, my mouth) obviously thought this was the bomb, as I didn’t let it age much in my glass.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Dudar (101) - Minsk, BELARUS - MAY 26, 2011
Aroma of vanilla, licorice, faint smoke and some fruit cake. Taste chocolate, toast, bread crust, prunes, coffee, licorice, smooth bitterness. Where is the promised smoke? Great balance though

Pint at Pomeroys. Was looking forward to trying this as one of my favourite 8 wired beers. Lots of oak and vanilla aroma and I couldn’t make out much of the smoke. A dark red rather than a black in the glass, but not much of a head at all. Lacked a lot of body which I found weird as I wouldn’t have thought the oak would do that, but what do I know? Kept reminding me (uncomfortably) of a bourbon and coke.
Found the oak dominated rather than complimented the beer. Interesting experiment though in how the oak works with the beer
