3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Served from a 22 oz bottle from Bottlecraft. The appearance is a beautiful hazy brown black with a medium frothy brown head. The nose oozes with wonderful roasted coffee and malts. The flavors start off with a strong coffee and heavy roast malt, then some of the barrel effects come in with rough dry oak, a bit of dry sour cherry and some fruitiness. The drying oak keeps going. Nice medium to full mouth. I enjoyed this one.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Prominent licorice aroma in a jet black pour. Complex taste with hints of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, and licorice/aniseed all made subtle by the barrel aging. An excellent brew that lives up to its reputation.

Bottle. Jet black pour with a tan head. Aromas of roasted malta, coffee, cocoa, oak, and molasses. Flavor is similar. Nice balance of roasted, bitter notes and complimenting sweetness. Abv is hidden very well. Very respectable.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
"Re-done as Batch 31. Drinks smaller than the abv implies - defibitely not a sugar bomb, which is nice. Ample roast right from the get go, and plenty of bitterness, some from the hops, some from the cofee. At first itís a little rough around the edges. The combo of hops and the fresh beans (which seemed a bit young) make it a bit of a green beer...but it calms down nicely and the better parts of the coffee come out eventually. Not elite, but solid."

Think this would've been a near perfect Beer had it been stored properly all but its a 2-year-old bottle of beer that while it was pretty much out of damaging light may have gotten a little Warm at times. Poured with a small light brown head and no lace, color is an opaque brownish black. ARoma is Malt roast Cocoa bit of coffee. Flavor is touch sour upfront which I think is sign it's beginning to turn otherwise just like aroma and is rich and pretty good.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours out the color of tar. A deep black that made the room feel darker. String but not boozy in the flavors of earthy malty with a bitter coffee finish. Smooth and slick palate that has a dry feel after all is said and done.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Got a bottle from a friend that was brewed, barreled, and bottled in 2011. Pour pitch black with no head at all. Aroma was mostly deep, rich oak threaded through with coffee, almost like espresso. Very smooth flavor. Mostly oak on the tounge, but almost a burned oak. Reminded me of charred barrels. Again, a slight coffee presence behind the oak. Aging probably hid the coffee flavors while drawing out the wood. Overall a great beer. Wish I had another bottle!
