Pint at Galbraiths Alehouse (Auckland). A black beauty this, as dark as the cracks of doom. Whoa...plenty from those coffee beans, in both the aroma and the flavour. Delightfully so at first, but then rather challenging towards the bottom of the point. And at a surprisingly low 4.8%, am enigma of a beer.

On tap at the Local Taphouse. Very nice, hoppy stout. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, and liquorice. Taste is sweet and bitter, with average length. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Dark brown, with a frothy head.

Damn cool beer... sweet malty notes with a dual wack of bitterness coming from the hops and the coffee. Did not quite know what to make of it but very enjoyable.

About as black as it gets with a mocha head that clings to the sides of the glass and sits on the top of the beer in patches. Aromas and flavours of coffee grounds and barley malt. Not your standard style stout as it has definite schwarzbier characters: the body is thinner and light and similar bitterness and flavour to Kostritzer. For all that, a good sessionable beer, stout, schwazbier or otherwise.
