3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared by beerpig317. Very dark brown, near black color. Little light brown / tan head, leaves a few loose dots of lace. Pretty intense aroma, you get some heat right in the nose. Raisin, dark roast, burnt sugars. Some coffee, and a very nice bigger pinot noir barrel influence in the flavor. Bigger body. Very light carbonation. Dry finish. Predominantly bitter taste, with some alcohol heat in the finish. Lightly tart taste, but it’s not immediately noticeable amidst the other big flavors here, and kind of works well with the vinous flavors. Very nice long burnt sugar and coffee aftertaste, with a hint of dark chocolate, and dark vinous notes all throughout. Very interesting, complex, massive imperial stout.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Aroma is very strong wine and wood, then dark fruit, alcohol, almost a smokiness, almost an unripe sourness, spirit-like heat. Taste is same. And then some. Possibly wake up with extra hair on your chest, so ladies best avoid.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black black black. Aroma is strong barrel smell - musty winey aroma. Taste is syrupy barrel flavour, nice roast sitting behind wineyness, sweet finish. Palate is sticky. Overall, another interesting beer from 8 wired. The barrel aging really takes over here way too much, but still goodness here.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
From a 330ml bottle on 22/8/2013 (batch 45, BB 2028). Pours pretty much black with no head. Has a big vinous, slightly boozy aroma, with lots of woody notes. Starts out with dark fruit sweetness, with some port-like flavours prominent. This is followed by a distinct, almost tart, spiciness. At the back you get some pronounced roasty, bitter notes which leave the mouth bone dry. For a beer this big, the body is remarkably light, and the carbonation is a touch higher than average for the style. I’m ordinarily a big fan of 8 Wired gear and was hoping this would be amazing, but this one left me a little cold. It undeniably complex and intense, but perhaps a little to harsh to be really enjoyable. Perhaps one to leave in the cellar for a few years.
