Sometimes - OK, rather often, actually - I find myself asking, "How far can we take it?" Keeping in mind that flavour should be the main objective at all time, the conception of Bumaye was one of those moments. To make it we started out with the baddest imperial stout we have ever brewed, and then added loads of tasty sugars to the fermenter foe extra flavour. To smooth out the roughness, we allowed the beer to mellow in Pinot Noir barrels for more than a year.

An experimental 17% Imperial stout released for Beervana 2012.

330 ml bottle. Pours black with very light tan head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of licorice and wet roasted malts with sour vinous notes. Flavors of burnt caramel, licorice, roasted malts, and cashews, again with some slick/sour vinous notes. Definite alcohol heat. A beer liqueur. Tasty.

fletchfighters (1275) - AUSTRALIA - MAR 25, 2015
330 ML bottle Oily black pour, just hints of ruby at the top. No head at all. Nose is dark fruits, raisin, soft oak, red wine, and some soft notes of sourness. Well balanced nose. Taste is a lot of the barrel. Sourness from the wine, oak, pinot noir, chocolate, and dark fruits. Very bright fruits. Decent amount of booze. Big bodied, low carbonation. Good sourness in the finish. Well balanced beer.

Bottle at a big tasting (Nördprovning 2015). Fruity smell with dried fruit, raisins in particular. Similar taste. Feels aged (which it obviously was seeing the year now). Dark malty flavour with chocolate. Very nice, very sweet.

Big and boozy but tasty and balanced- this brew has caramel and coffee beneath a subtle and balancing wine barrel fruitiness- can really get a lot of woody dry red wine. Pretty tasty and pretty friggin ’big’ #thatswhatshesaid

Bottle. Pours black with a grayish brown head that dissipates to the edges quickly. Aroma has rich sweet dark fruits and sweet dark grains with a bit of roasted malts and backing notes of red wine and a hint of coffee. Flavor begins with sweet dark grains and dark fruits with a strong growing red wine note with a bit of roasted malts and a coffee bite in the finish.

33cl bottle. pitch dark, smooth small brown head. aroma is wood, hard roasted malts, faint boozy note too. strong.. but a little bit one dimensional the abv considering. Flavor is incredibly rich, insane roasted malty intense note, as well as loads of wood, and then finer notes proably from the wood too. salty licorice notes. very tasty for a 16%abv imp stout, not as sweet as feared, the bitterness is stunning, almost peppery. tastes more like some badass 40% liqeur than a mere 16% black beer. lots of power.

12 oz bottle at Sergio's, courtesy of Tyler, thanks! The pour is a light black with hints of brown around the edges and a thin ring of light khaki head and no lace. The aroma is beautiful. There is a strong roasted caramel malt and it comes off really sweet. There is a lot of alcohol heat on the back end but the sweetness is really good. The flavor is a little hotter. There is a lot chocolate malts and a great sweet roasty character. The mouth feel is thin for a 17% barrel aged stout. The aftertaste is lingeringly smooth and nicely roasty before it finishes with a little bit of a boozy heat ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

@Wine Emporium, Huge, black and full bodied.......woody, smoke, vanilla, tar, cocoa, prunes, raisins, licorice, brown sugar, port wine, alcohol.......very complex in aroma and taste with low bitterness and carbonation.............."knock ’em dead"

Aroma is deep rich malts, caramel, espresso and fig. Taste is a deep strong rich sweetness. Some notes of rye, vanilla and caramel. Slight funk and roastiness. Appearance is black with a thin pearl head that retains fairly poorly.

Poured from a bottle it is a dark brown color. The aroma is of whiskey and the taste is strong whiskey with notes of cherry and licorice tgat remains on the palate
