COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sometimes - OK, rather often, actually - I find myself asking, "How far can we take it?" Keeping in mind that flavour should be the main objective at all time, the conception of Bumaye was one of those moments. To make it we started out with the baddest imperial stout we have ever brewed, and then added loads of tasty sugars to the fermenter foe extra flavour. To smooth out the roughness, we allowed the beer to mellow in Pinot Noir barrels for more than a year.

An experimental 17% Imperial stout released for Beervana 2012.

Bottle. Black with tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, roast and dark fruits. Taste has lots of licorice and some chocolate. Medium to low sweetness. Alcohol very well hidden. Nice

Bottle at home... Deep black... Thin thin lacing... Dark dry roast... Light sweet barrel nose... Way too much barrel... Soft red wine... Dark roast... Heavy malts.. Dark roast

Very black with tiny tan head. Thin consistency and a bit oily. Aroma is soy sauce (food), wine. Very alcohol-y in a wine sort of way, not overpowering. Salty, malty, and interesting flavor, but not that enjoyable.

330ml bottle, pours a jet back colour with no head, aroma is a chocolate , liquorice with a bit of fruitiness. Sweetish. The alcohol is well hidden and this is very drinkable for a 16% beer, so this gets a good rating from me but the flavours are not nuanced enough to take this to the next level.

Aroma - vinegardy, barrel aging, peach-fruity, sweet malty - complex aroma. Pours almost black with beige-tan small top. Taste is sweetish and dominant sour, but nice balanced, dark malt bitter also smooth billed. Nice. Astringent mouthfeel, medium to full body, thick-slick-oily texture, bitter and mild sour aftertaste, light dry to dry finish. Interesting brew but by price/performance - not to me. A bit pungent moutfeel as well.

Wow. Hidden ABV batman! Loads if chocolate, light roast, red wine notes, oak, dark dried fruit, berries.

Short rating as getting through backlog. Beautiful colour and aroma. Can’t believe this is so high in ABV. Chocolate liquorice, can taste the wine barrels. Another classy beer from 8 wired

What to make of this. As far as I can tell it’s a wine infused beer, like you get whiskey infused beers. It’s somewhat sour and it lacks the tannin edginess and pain. It’s dry clever. Finishes a bit dry but it’s a long long finish and you sit there having another sup trying to figure out what the heck it is you’re enjoying because you are enjoying it.

33 cl bottle @ home. Pours black with a tan head that leaves a little lacing. Aroma and flavour are vinous, vanilla, oak, chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, and some warming alcohol – with a dry finish.

Aucune effervescence ni apparence de vigeur dans ce corps liquoreux. Des notes de chocolat dans l’éthanol, de café noir suivi d’une sécheresse vineuse d’où émerge subtilement le caractère du raisin foncé. Buvabilité morne.
