COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In my opinion, coffee rivals beer for the title of "greatest beverage in the world". I often say that I would rather give up beer than coffee. So it is only natural that we would attempt to make a beverage that incorporates both. If we were to succeed, surely this would then become the greatest beverage in the world? After years of research and trials in the garage, I have come up with what I think is the perfect marriage of coffee and beer: A hoppy double brown ale, that compliments both the roasty and fruity aspects of the coffee without putting up too much of a fight. The coffee was selected in collaboration with the Christchurch institution C4 Coffee and consists mainly of lightly roasted, delicate and floral, Ethiopian beans. Worlds are colliding and, in my humble opinion, greatness is achieved on the other side.

HOPS: Pacific Jade, NZ Cascade and Pacifica

MALT: Gladfield Pale, Crystal, Munich, Caramalt, Chocolate, Oats

YEAST: Wyeast 1272 - American Ale II

Sampled from 50cl bottle thanks to Joes. Very dark brown to dark red color with a deep dark red color, medium sized beige head that diminishes fairly quickly. Smell malts, dark malts some roastyness and a lot of coffee. Taste malts, a tremendous amount coffee and roastyness, slightly cocoa, some earth and bitter. A bit too much coffee for me though it has quite a nice balance. Medium body and carbonation.

Bottle @ joes. Dark brown colour with some ruby shining through, small off-white head. Smells coffee, chocolate, roasty, lovely. Tastes lots of coffee, roasty, dark chocolate.. Amazing aftertaste! Could use more body (it’s thin to medium), carbo is nice.

Keg at Craft Islington.Ultra strong coffee smell and taste. But more like coffee grinds. Not much else. Nice but one dimensional. I quite liked it, but it was quite predictable.

50 cl bottle @ lusikka, no BBE info (probably olio has licked it away)
Aroma is rather strong on vegetable, jalopeno and nettle aromas typical to coffee beers. Flavour has mocha, very dark chocolate and jalopeno‐like vegetables. Very dry stuff, especially in the finish.

500ml bottle. Clear reddish dark brown colour small to average, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, superbly lacing, beige head. Roasty coffee aroma, dark malty background. Taste is initially minimally sweet dark malty with cappuccino notes, later with fading sweetness more dry and roasty, roasted coffee; long lasting finish.

Tap at Craft, Clerkenwell - 10/12/12. Opaque dark chestnut brown with a thin tan head that clears fairly quickly. Good lacing follows. Big coffee punch on the schnozzer, roast malts, espresso, light burnt tones. Taste comprises coffee, although nowhere near as strong as the nose, roast malts, sweet dark sugars, hops, touch pine. Full bodied with soft carbonation lending towards a hoppy coffee finish. Good stuff !
