COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In my opinion, coffee rivals beer for the title of "greatest beverage in the world". I often say that I would rather give up beer than coffee. So it is only natural that we would attempt to make a beverage that incorporates both. If we were to succeed, surely this would then become the greatest beverage in the world? After years of research and trials in the garage, I have come up with what I think is the perfect marriage of coffee and beer: A hoppy double brown ale, that compliments both the roasty and fruity aspects of the coffee without putting up too much of a fight. The coffee was selected in collaboration with the Christchurch institution C4 Coffee and consists mainly of lightly roasted, delicate and floral, Ethiopian beans. Worlds are colliding and, in my humble opinion, greatness is achieved on the other side.

HOPS: Pacific Jade, NZ Cascade and Pacifica

MALT: Gladfield Pale, Crystal, Munich, Caramalt, Chocolate, Oats

YEAST: Wyeast 1272 - American Ale II

Keg at Craft Beer Co, Islington, London. A dark brown/red coloured pour with a small beige head on top. Rich roasty, coffee aroma. Tastes of coffee, roasty, slightly hoppy, malty. An interesting brew from NZ.

500ml bottle. Clear reddish dark brown colour small to average, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, superbly lacing, beige head. Roasty coffee aroma, dark malty background. Taste is initially minimally sweet dark malty with cappuccino notes, later with fading sweetness more dry and roasty, roasted coffee; long lasting finish.

Tap at Craft, Clerkenwell - 10/12/12. Opaque dark chestnut brown with a thin tan head that clears fairly quickly. Good lacing follows. Big coffee punch on the schnozzer, roast malts, espresso, light burnt tones. Taste comprises coffee, although nowhere near as strong as the nose, roast malts, sweet dark sugars, hops, touch pine. Full bodied with soft carbonation lending towards a hoppy coffee finish. Good stuff !

Craft Clerkenwell. Clear dark red - brown beer, small pale tan head. Slightly crispy palate. Sweet malts, some dark character and a little lactose cream. Mild red berry fruits. Some coffee - but I was expecting a lot more. Semi dry finish. Not bad.

Very brown brown almost black in colour, delicious dominant roasted coffee aroma, with a hint of hops. Tastes thick and creamy and the coffee is ultra rich, perhaps over balanced in the coffee direction, but it is sensational

A - Pours a cloudy brown with some red-orange mixed in and a finger of frothy white head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some nice lacing. S - Aroma is a mix of sweet caramel malts, roasted coffee, brown sugar, fruity yeast esters, nuttiness, some citrus hops, and a hint of booze. T - Starts off with a mix of sweet caramel malts, fruity yeast esters, and some citrus hops. Through the middle, roasted coffee comes through with a touch of hop bitterness, some nuttiness, and some more fruity yeast character. The finish is a mix of sweet caramel malts, roasted coffee, coffee bitterness, some mild citrus hops, and some fruity esters. M - Medium-plus bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a roasty, bitter, and dry finish. D - Very drinkable. Good brown ale with the coffee adding some nice complexity and depth.

500mL bottle, pours a deep dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma of hazelnut coffee and toasted nuts - not overly pungent, especially considering the flavour. Flavour is very rich, surprisingly so, with lots of coffee, toasted hazelnuts, dark roasted malt, and rich caramel malt sweetness. Surprisingly full-bodied, with dominating flavours of caramel and hazelnut coffee. Finishes sweet and nutty. Excellent stuff.

Very interesting beer. The coffee taste is prominent, but not overbearing. Most definitely an acquired taste.

500 ml bottle from Shenanigans. Big carbonated brown with strong coffee, nut taste. Medium body. Not heavy at all for a brown and for the coffee. Pretty decent.
