COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In my opinion, coffee rivals beer for the title of "greatest beverage in the world". I often say that I would rather give up beer than coffee. So it is only natural that we would attempt to make a beverage that incorporates both. If we were to succeed, surely this would then become the greatest beverage in the world? After years of research and trials in the garage, I have come up with what I think is the perfect marriage of coffee and beer: A hoppy double brown ale, that compliments both the roasty and fruity aspects of the coffee without putting up too much of a fight. The coffee was selected in collaboration with the Christchurch institution C4 Coffee and consists mainly of lightly roasted, delicate and floral, Ethiopian beans. Worlds are colliding and, in my humble opinion, greatness is achieved on the other side.

HOPS: Pacific Jade, NZ Cascade and Pacifica

MALT: Gladfield Pale, Crystal, Munich, Caramalt, Chocolate, Oats

YEAST: Wyeast 1272 - American Ale II

from Erzbierschof - clear dark brown beer with a modest head retention; earthy, biscuity maltiness toped by coffeish notes; pretty full-bodied, tasty and quite hoppy; biscuity malty hoppy and coffeish aftertaste - very pleasant

Bottle. Clear brown appearance with low carbonation and a small head. Chocolate like coffee flavour dominates but doesn’t take over. Perhaps a novelty beer but still a superb one.

Bottle. It’s a clear one, brown in color and with a small, dense, beige head. The aroma is rather one tracked, leaving little room for anything else but the coffee, but it’s cleverly done. Coffee bitterness, coffee and some chocolate and vanilla in the flavor, something spiced blending in. Full body, semi-dry and pleasantly carbonated. The finish has some notes of citrusy hops blending with the coffee. A touch of vanilla and chocolate too. Wonderful. 130216

Milky coffee with just a hint of vanilla combined with a beautiful hoppy malty ale. Say no more. Not a novelty, a real beer that I will definitely seek out to have again. Delicious.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; dark brown pour with thin beige head, definite coffee aroma, coffee taste does what it says on the bottle, heavily carbonated, very good brown almost poterish.

Bottle. Brown with light tan head. Aroma of coffee and hops, quite fruity, the hops work well with the coffee. Taste more coffee than than the aroma and less hoppy. Decent body and a clean finish.

On tap at The Scratch. Rating from April 2014. Beer and coffee is a great combination and this one is done well. Deep black colour with plenty of coffee in both the flavour and aroma. Worth seeking out.

Bottle frae Brew Dog, shared with Slothez, Superbowl session. Deep dark brown pour with a shy tan head. Coffee laden beak alongside a little chocolate..Smooth creamy mouthefeel. More coffee in the taste with notes of citrus hop, malts and dark fruits Steady rolling bitterness. The hops and coffee link up really well. Not my favourite style but this could well be the best brown ale I’ve ever tasted. Yumtiddlyum.
