We believe HopWired is the first bottled version of a true new world India Pale Ale made with NZ grown base malt and 100% truly unique NZ hops. We bet you’ll find nothing else like it on the shelves. Although the malty sweetness is there, this beer is all about the hops. Unlike an American I.P.A. which will mainly hit you with a grapefruity-citrus flavour and aroma, the unique NZ hops used in HopWired are more like a tropical punchbowl: Passion fruit, lime, oranges and Sauvignon Blanc to name but a few. A local Marlborough winemaker said it smelled like gooseberries... Gooseberries? Who has ever smelled a gooseberry?? Decide for yourself or just enjoy it without further complications. Cheers!

tap@Mikkeller Bar (Viktoriagade), CPH (14/03/2014) - amber pour with medium white head. Fresh citrus and tropical hoppy in aroma and taste, prominent pine, mandarin, lemon, grapefruit, slight spice in there, warming toasty caramel malts, lovely bitter finish. Immense.

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. A bright amber coloured beer with tropical fruit and orange marmalade flavours, a creamy warming mouthfeel and an orange blossom and toffee finish.

Bottle. This is a very well made beer! The NZ hops used are delicious and bring a great aroma to the beer, and this is perfectly balanced by the malt. Top shelf

Sweet apple nose. Smooth texture with a fluffy carbonation. Malt-forward and on the sweet side. Flavors of sticky caramel, rock candy, and sugared apples. Fresh hop flavors and aromas with notes of sweet grass and flowers. Mild bitterness. Even though it doesn’t fit within the style guidelines, and it’s a bit too sweet for me, I thought it was a tasty, well-made beer.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein orangegoldenes Bier mit geringer Schaumkrone. Geruch intensiv malzig, fruchtig herb. Geschmack sehr mild fruchtig bitter nach exotischen Früchten.

500ml bottle. Clear orange amber colour, foam white head and aroma of tropical fruits, caramel, orange, pine hop resin. Taste is malt caramel with mango, orange, hoppy bitterness. Smooth slightly oily mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, lingering dry bitter finish. Very drinkable IPA.

Can smell the hops as the bottle was opened. Got sugar aroma with sense of jube lolly. Burnt orange (SRM 14) in colour. Bit of caramel. toast among the citrus taste. Got a bitter finish that lingers. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Resin and jujubee candy fruit in the nose with trace amounts of alcohol and fabric. Sweet, syrupy, twangy, a little something like shrimp shells, bitter leafy greens, pine sap into a bitter finish. Hoppy, sweet, simple.

Bottle from CBB. Clear, dark orange with small white head. Aroma has pine, malts, hops and some passion fruit. Passion fruit comes through more in the flavour, as do the hops. Tasted better as it went on and slightly warmed.

Bottle from Cantabrian, thank you very much! This one has NZ hops all over the place. Grass, lime, gooseberry, sweet tropical fruit pulp and a faint note of white grapes. But also malt. Yes, it has a medium body, a medium bitterness and a light sweetness. You would never guess the ABV, it goes down like water. It makes the impression of a rookie IPA - not too intense, very balanced, maybe actually a bit too much. Could use a bit more punch. Still a very good beer.
