COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We believe HopWired is the first bottled version of a true new world India Pale Ale made with NZ grown base malt and 100% truly unique NZ hops. We bet you’ll find nothing else like it on the shelves. Although the malty sweetness is there, this beer is all about the hops. Unlike an American I.P.A. which will mainly hit you with a grapefruity-citrus flavour and aroma, the unique NZ hops used in HopWired are more like a tropical punchbowl: Passion fruit, lime, oranges and Sauvignon Blanc to name but a few. A local Marlborough winemaker said it smelled like gooseberries... Gooseberries? Who has ever smelled a gooseberry?? Decide for yourself or just enjoy it without further complications. Cheers!

Bottle brought back from NZ by wombata. Thank you. Nose of horse piss, pine, lime, and strong armpit notes. Really an olfactory assault! Dark orange color with tinge of red. Really harsh hoppiness and crude fruit in the nose. As astringent as can be in the initial stage, and then a little sweetness emerges in the final. The unusual, extreme aromas are a plus for me. Yet it may be a bit overdone.

Bottle stored on its side in the fridge. Took out and opened and then drank a third as fast as I could as the beer foamed from the bottle. Have to be more careful with the next one to see if it was me or the beer. Dark thick dirty orange amber with surprisingly light head after the mishap. Aroma is a curious grape and berry. Flavour is more traditional woody hops with a sandy quality but not texture and hints of berry perhaps. Tasty.

UPDATED: FEB 8, 2014 Bottle brought back by Wombata. Complex hop nose with pineapple and cat piss, passion fruit. Grungy citrus flavor, dirty, with butter and something almost phenolic-tasting but probably coming from the hops. Interesting, though too much of that harsh cat piss hop flavor for me.

50 cl bottle. No BBE info.
Pours clear copper color with a medium-sized head. Aroma of fresh hoppy fruits, pine needles, mild malty notes, goose berry bush, nettle and some resin. Flavor of fruits, mild malts, dry hay, goose berries, mild caramel notes and some wood. Bitter and fruity palate with a dry finish. Nice and hoppy brew.

500 ml bottle.
Pours a dark copper colour with a white head. Rich aroma of caramel, strong floral hops, sweet exotic fruits, pine and dark biscuity malts. Strong flavour of caramel malts, strong floral hops, exotic fruits and pine, grapefruit and some dark fruitiness. Full bodied, thick mouthfeel and a long bitter and fruity finish. Complex and very tasty with a huge hop bite.

A copperbrown beer with a medium, but slightly disappearing, blond head. Aroma is tropical fruity, lychee, gooseberries, some peachy sweetness; sophisticated aroma. Taste is also sophisticated and fruitfull, lychee and gooseberries, medium bitterness that turns into slightly piney. Medium bodied and smooth to drink. Fruitfull and sophisticated, even modest, because so great flavours could be much more.

Bottle. Poured clear copper color with an average to large frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate to heavy earthy hop aroma. Medium to full body with slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This beer exceeded my expectations.

Bottle from brewdog.com. Lots of summer fruits, oranges, kiwi, strawberry, all that kind of stuff. Nice and surprising.

Muddy orange-amber with fair, creamy, off-white head / Vile, skunky, manure and celery nose / Medium body, mildly biting but astringent, with fair, very bitter finish / Insipid flavors of pine, citrus, and celery / My bottle doesn’t seem to jive with the ratings?
