COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We believe HopWired is the first bottled version of a true new world India Pale Ale made with NZ grown base malt and 100% truly unique NZ hops. We bet you’ll find nothing else like it on the shelves. Although the malty sweetness is there, this beer is all about the hops. Unlike an American I.P.A. which will mainly hit you with a grapefruity-citrus flavour and aroma, the unique NZ hops used in HopWired are more like a tropical punchbowl: Passion fruit, lime, oranges and Sauvignon Blanc to name but a few. A local Marlborough winemaker said it smelled like gooseberries... Gooseberries? Who has ever smelled a gooseberry?? Decide for yourself or just enjoy it without further complications. Cheers!

The hops are great in this, of course, with peaches and mangoes... but what struck me more than anything was the awesome malt body. Oddly enough. Slightly more syrupy than usual, and just bursting with those deep flavours, that part of the beer made this seem like a well made double IPA, without the extreme clashes in your mouth.

Bottle. Mostly clear dark yellow color with a disappearing foamy white head. Strong aroma of citrus and floral hops. Tastes like it smells. Bitter hoppy finish.

Bottle, shared with Parksy and Grippitis. Orange amber body, medium off-white head. Tropical fruit hop flavours, leaning toward citrus, a tad thin in the malt department, but a nice IPA. I’m probably giving it fainter praise than I would normally, given that we had this after having the Stone 16th Anniversary (this had nowhere near the body).

Poured from a 500 ml bottle. A strong malt presence, some prune, plum notes. The hops are floral, fruity, pine. A nice IPA.

500 mL bottle. Hazy orange with a nice off-white head. Aroma is quite appealing, with sweet citrus and a really interesting note of black pepper. Or something like that. Can’t quite place it. Flavour is quite unique as well, with peaches or mango up front, then sweet orange, then that weird spicy thing. Pretty big. Definitely worth going back to, because it’s good, and it’s different.

A - Pours a very hazy golden-orange with a finger of frothy off-white head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some nice lacing. S - Aroma is a mix of grapefruit, pineapple, tropical, floral, and spicy hops with some sweet caramel and lightly bready malts. T - Starts off with some grapefruit, pineapple, and tropical hops with some bitterness and some sweet caramel malts. Through the middle, some floral, grassy, and spicy hops come through with some more bitterness and some biscuity malts. The finish is a mix of tropical and floral hops with some resiny bitterness and sweet bready malts. M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a dry and bitter finish. D - Very drinkable. Nice strong hop profile and bitterness throughout. Good overall balance.

50cl Bottle @ RBBSG. Light amber coloured beer with almost no carbonation and a small white head. Stronger hoppy aroma. Full palate. Finish is strong hoppy bitter. Much less balanced than the Fresh Hopwired. Xtreme IPA
