COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We believe HopWired is the first bottled version of a true new world India Pale Ale made with NZ grown base malt and 100% truly unique NZ hops. We bet you’ll find nothing else like it on the shelves. Although the malty sweetness is there, this beer is all about the hops. Unlike an American I.P.A. which will mainly hit you with a grapefruity-citrus flavour and aroma, the unique NZ hops used in HopWired are more like a tropical punchbowl: Passion fruit, lime, oranges and Sauvignon Blanc to name but a few. A local Marlborough winemaker said it smelled like gooseberries... Gooseberries? Who has ever smelled a gooseberry?? Decide for yourself or just enjoy it without further complications. Cheers!

Pours a clear amber with a nice lacey white head that remains and sticks to the glass. Aroma is of pale malt, tropical fruit , citrus, pine, pepper and a little sweetness. Taste is pretty similar with a malty sweetness at first that combines with big tropical fruit and citrus moving to pine and lychee or white grape and finishes with a long spicy lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel was perfect for style with moderate to high carbonation a big juicy mouthfeel and finishing really dry. Overall one of the best NZ IPAs I have had would like to try a little younger

Fruity and complex with a strong herbal, grassy hop bitterness. Definitely some ’terroir’ in the citrus character, with some sweet grapefruit, bitter orange, mint, earth mineral and catty notes. Steely dry palate.

Bottle [500ml]. Pours a hazy golden-orange with a massive long-lasting frothy off-white head. Aroma is fruity (tropical fruit, citrus and more) first followed by grassy hops, sweet malt and some spice. Flavour is fruity and hoppy, a bit bready, along with some herbs and a long, average bitter finish. Medium bodied. Very good, especially considering how far it’s come.

500 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in a stem glass. Pours clear amber with a tall, off-white head that remains and leaves a moderate amount of fine lace. On the nose there are huge notes of tropical fruit, along with citrus, pine and pale malts. The flavour is well-balanced, with a medium caramel malty sweetness paired with a medium fruity, citrusy, piney bitterness. The finish is long, spicy and peppery with a dry hoppy bitterness. On the palate it is medium in body with a dry texture and average carbonation. Overall, this is a nice balanced IPA with an interesting fruity hop bouquet. The malts are also remarkable, being quite English in character. 2013-04-14

Bottle from the LCBO. Pours a clear pinkish copper with 2 fingers of foamy white head that dissipates fairly quickly and a bit of visible carbonation. Smell is really quite nice, lots of fruit, juicy, a bit sweet, a bit of trees, just really wonderful. Palate is on the lighter side of medium bodied and a bit lacking in carbonation. Taste is pretty decent, a bit sweet and watery at first, but then gets a nice big bitter kick, and just when you think it’s all gone you get a nice bitter kick in the aftertaste. Good fun, wish I had more bottles.

UPDATED: MAY 13, 2013 Blood gold pour. Nose is fruit sucker punch. A palate this is like a handshake after a bare knuckles street brawl: tough, in your face & sincere. Got this one on the advice of a student. That’s an A for this project.
