We believe HopWired is the first bottled version of a true new world India Pale Ale made with NZ grown base malt and 100% truly unique NZ hops. We bet you’ll find nothing else like it on the shelves. Although the malty sweetness is there, this beer is all about the hops. Unlike an American I.P.A. which will mainly hit you with a grapefruity-citrus flavour and aroma, the unique NZ hops used in HopWired are more like a tropical punchbowl: Passion fruit, lime, oranges and Sauvignon Blanc to name but a few. A local Marlborough winemaker said it smelled like gooseberries... Gooseberries? Who has ever smelled a gooseberry?? Decide for yourself or just enjoy it without further complications. Cheers!

Tap@Pudel, Tallinn. Pours amber with off white head. The head stays for a moment. Aroma is caramel, pine, citrus, grapefruit. Flavor is sweet and bitter, caramel, pine, citrus, some berry and fruity notes. Finish is dry and pine bitter with faint hint of alcohol. Overall: great brew. I didn’t get that much tropical fruits NZ hops as I thought I would.

Clear amber color with medium white medium-lasting head. Aroma is full of tropical fruits such as pineapple and mango, also caramel, sweet malts and hops. Medium to light body and low carbonation. Taste is in the same line as aroma, sweet, hoppy and very fruity. Very drinkable, well balanced and enjoyable.

Keg at Brewdog, alongside the ’Fresh’ version. Hazy orange, still, small foamy white head doesn’t endure long. Aroma is fresh with cut grass, orange and pine. Body is medium, bit of spritz, not overly foamy. Taste is sweet toffee, tangy orange hop, lightly floral. Nice.

Tropical fruits and some caramel and citrus in the aroma. Amber with a white head. Medium sweet and medium to heavy bitter. Medium body with a average carbonation. Overall a delicious IPA, fruity and almost spicy in its bitterness.

Draft at Edmunds Oast. Light amber pour with a bubbly white head. Aroma is dominated by grapefruit hops, resins and caramel maltiness. Flavor is similar and fairly soft with nothing too in you face hop character with a moderately bitter finish. It’s alway hard to judge a IPA from half way around the world.

Pours a light hazy orange colour. Off white head that faded quite quickly. Light caramel aroma with some grassy citrus hints. Flavour is quite similar, some caramel malts followed by tastes of grassy and citrus fruit hops. Just the right amount of carbonation. First beer I’ve tried from New Zealand, very good first impressions here.

Pours a lightly hazed orange color with a modest off-white head that quickly falls. Aroma is has a light caramel sweetness with notes of some light grassiness early but it quickly transitions to passion fruit and a lime/grapefruit citrus. Flavor follows the nose pretty well. Early malt sweetness is followed by some bitter/citrus hop combo with a light dryness and overall bitter sweet finish. Body is modest with very fine carbonation delivering the flavors nicely. Overall a good brew that truly shows off the flavors of some NZ hops.
