We believe HopWired is the first bottled version of a true new world India Pale Ale made with NZ grown base malt and 100% truly unique NZ hops. We bet you’ll find nothing else like it on the shelves. Although the malty sweetness is there, this beer is all about the hops. Unlike an American I.P.A. which will mainly hit you with a grapefruity-citrus flavour and aroma, the unique NZ hops used in HopWired are more like a tropical punchbowl: Passion fruit, lime, oranges and Sauvignon Blanc to name but a few. A local Marlborough winemaker said it smelled like gooseberries... Gooseberries? Who has ever smelled a gooseberry?? Decide for yourself or just enjoy it without further complications. Cheers!

50 cl bottle @ hotel room, Las Vegas
Vertical with Fresh version
Aroma has fruity hops, some resin and mango. Also hints of gooseberry bush. Flavour is slightly sweet and rather fruity with mango, some caramel and gooseberry bush. This one was better and actually felt more fresh.

Amber, thick white head. Nose is heavy on the resiny hops with tropical notes, biscuity malt and caramel. Taste begins with malt with sweetish-caramel notes, then develops into a nice hoppy punch with spicy tropical fruits (mainly grapefruit) and a powerful, but delicate, bitterness. Finish is a return of the sweetish-bready malt mixed with resiny bitterness. Soft carbonation, oily mouthfeel. Good brew.

Brilliant amber/orange color. Big puffy white head. Slow to fall with plenty of lacing left behind. Nice bouquet of orange, passion fruit, slight citrus, caramel and malt. Citrusy flavor with a nice hop presence and a bit of biscuity malt. Prickly bitterness on the tongue with a slightly bitter and sweet finish. Very good.

UPDATED: JUL 18, 2012 Pours deep gold into a Sam glass. White head with medium retention recedes leaving spider lacing. Pine and resin aromas. Thin with sweet caramel, toffee and tropical fruit upfront turning to grassy resin before the lasting citrus finish.
