We believe HopWired is the first bottled version of a true new world India Pale Ale made with NZ grown base malt and 100% truly unique NZ hops. We bet you’ll find nothing else like it on the shelves. Although the malty sweetness is there, this beer is all about the hops. Unlike an American I.P.A. which will mainly hit you with a grapefruity-citrus flavour and aroma, the unique NZ hops used in HopWired are more like a tropical punchbowl: Passion fruit, lime, oranges and Sauvignon Blanc to name but a few. A local Marlborough winemaker said it smelled like gooseberries... Gooseberries? Who has ever smelled a gooseberry?? Decide for yourself or just enjoy it without further complications. Cheers!

UPDATED: OCT 21, 2012 Bottle. This was my first beer I have tried from 8 Wired. After seeing that the brewery was from New Zealend, and that this beer was made with tons of Nelson hops, I had to pick it up. Poured a cloudy golden orange color with a medium body and lacing amount. Aromas are tons of tropical fruit notes, cheddar, onions, honey mustard, mangoes. Taste is just as incredible as the scent. Loads of oniony nelson hops, pineapple, mango, and other citrus fruit. Other notes of buttery crab and lobster that finishes up smooth and layered in flavor. Drink this beer with a bag of Snyders honey mustard and onion flavored pretzels. Luxurious, rich, and complex IPA from a brewer that I will be searching out in the near future.

From the bottle. Poured an almost opaque orange with a white head. Hops, grapefruit, and malts, with the malts pretty noticeable at the end. Finishes with a nice bitterness.

Bottle. 22 oz. Split with and courtesy of Vinnie. Bottle neck sort of shattered when Vin cracked it, so beware! Anyway, this beauty pours a hazy, murky brownish caramel orange with a two-finger white head. Aroma is fucking crazy: it literally smells like a bowl of French onion soup with a bit of scalliony armpit odor and Ramen noodle savory hint. Certainly unusual, but really much better than the sum of those things would suggest. The flavors followed through on the nose in the bitter, earthy department; tons of fuelly, dank, resinous Nelson hop pussy juice. Finishes with a slight savory/sweet kick and settles slowly down into the belly. Very satisfying, rich, bold IPA. I really want to try this again.
