COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We believe HopWired is the first bottled version of a true new world India Pale Ale made with NZ grown base malt and 100% truly unique NZ hops. We bet you’ll find nothing else like it on the shelves. Although the malty sweetness is there, this beer is all about the hops. Unlike an American I.P.A. which will mainly hit you with a grapefruity-citrus flavour and aroma, the unique NZ hops used in HopWired are more like a tropical punchbowl: Passion fruit, lime, oranges and Sauvignon Blanc to name but a few. A local Marlborough winemaker said it smelled like gooseberries... Gooseberries? Who has ever smelled a gooseberry?? Decide for yourself or just enjoy it without further complications. Cheers!

Nose: AlohA! pineapple passionfruit papaya marmalade, sweet and tropical. Taste balanced sweet malty body with tropical fruity hops continuing to dance on your tomgue. Finish dry-ish, crisp bitter, doesnt linger long. Great one

Bottle from Ørsted, Copenhagen, batch 12, bb 2011-09-14, presumably 4 months old
Hazy amber color; small-sized head. The aroma is surprising, a mix of pungent fruits and manure; passion fruit, chemicals... The body is less strong than expected, quite lean; dry toffee flavor, with a powerful and resiny hopping; the resins increase in the final, with piney accents, for an aggressive result. Original, very good.

(Bomber generously shared by a friend who picked his up in NZ). Pous a cloudy apricot color with a white head. Aroma is of dank, musty hops, citrus (orange and grapefruit). Taste is sweet malt backbone with some bitterness (probably a bit faded at this point, but very balanced). Medium body with an oily texture. Bitter finish. A very nice beer.

According to ratebeer this was the best beer in Australasia in 2010. Bold. Let’s see. Pours an interesting orange-amber colour with a little haze to it and a white head that sighed and slowly disappeared. I’ve got to say though, a very sexy colour. As far as aroma is concerned, Jesus Christoffersen! Resinous, malty and tropical. Overtly citrus orange and tangerine, gooseberry, pine needles, dehydrated pineapple and guava. A ten for aroma, this beer is magnificent! The first flush is that of astrinent bitterness and citrus. I have to say that this beer smells better than it tastes, but when it smells this good that isn’t difficult. The finish is quite sour and incredibly bitter. You know you’ve been hit with the IPA train. Flavours on the end lean toward resin. This is eyewatering stuff.

Bought this bottle @ the Molen. Little hazy orange color. Very fine smell with lots of hops, grapefruit and little pineapple flavors. Taste is the same. Medium to full body, lively beer and very nice carbonation.

In short: A yeasty IPA with hops that are grapefruity, minty and tropical fruits. Good but a bit muddy.
How: Bottle 500ml. Consumed as fresh as possible a few weeks after purchase.
The look: Very cloudy golden-amber body topped by a medium off-white head with medium retention
In long: Nose of high alpha-acid hops, very grapefruity but also minty. In mouth the hops turn more tropical fruits with pineapples, grapefruits, oranges, kiwis, etc. There is also a strong floral components that part garden flowers and part mint leafs. On the malt dept there is not much to say. The beer is more like a yeast soup with dry croutons and a tiny bit of caramel. Far from a clean beer, this felt a bit muddy. Like most IPAs with a strong grapefruity hop character, the bitterness was sharp and biting. HopWired, sounds high-tech for a beer. I love high-tech stuff. Everything is digital in my life, my watch, my music, my cable signal, my sex life.

My favorite beer from New Zealand. Too bad it’s quite hard to get a bottle of these. Great IPA. I think we got this bottle from De Molen.

Aroma: tropical fruit, lime, sauvignon blanc, mild grassy hops. Beautifully balanced. Taste: grassy bitterness. While best by date is September 2011 (currently June 2011), it seems much of the hop flavor has become subdued.

Bottled from de Molen. Slight hazy amber color, medium off-white head. Soft floral hoppy aroma, bit citrus, nelson sauvin, slight tropical fruit, hint of biscuit. Hint of sweetness in taste, mostly bitter, slight grainy, white wine. Quite dryish bitter palate, but not crisp, more fruity.
