COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We believe HopWired is the first bottled version of a true new world India Pale Ale made with NZ grown base malt and 100% truly unique NZ hops. We bet you’ll find nothing else like it on the shelves. Although the malty sweetness is there, this beer is all about the hops. Unlike an American I.P.A. which will mainly hit you with a grapefruity-citrus flavour and aroma, the unique NZ hops used in HopWired are more like a tropical punchbowl: Passion fruit, lime, oranges and Sauvignon Blanc to name but a few. A local Marlborough winemaker said it smelled like gooseberries... Gooseberries? Who has ever smelled a gooseberry?? Decide for yourself or just enjoy it without further complications. Cheers!

A new arrival to WI. 500ml bottle. It pours a murky brownish amber, not really a looker. The head is soapy and off-white with lots of hop bits. Normally I like these unfiltered dipas in appearance because they look organic, but this one just kind of looks murky. The smell is pure caramel, are there even any hops in this thing? The taste has caramel up the ass as well. This one tastes rather piney, ironic because the label says it shouldn’t. There is no passion fruit here, just pine, some lime zest, and grassiness, but mostly caramel. The bitterness is medium but it is still a caramel-dominated brew. If you like east-coast dipas give this one a try, i found the caramel to be overpowering. Serving type: bottle

Bottle at CPK. Pours light, hazy gold with a white head. Syrupy hops on the nose, thick, caramel, pine and resins. Lightly sweet, with some citrus and pleasant malts, light caramel, tangy and earthy bitterness. Medium to full in body with average carbonation. Dirty, sticky hop finish with some toasty malts. Pretty nice.

Bottle from Hi Time. Pours hazy amber with a bubbly/creamy beige head. Aroma of cat pee and tropical fruit? Near full bodied. Flavor is smooth creamy caramel, with astringency, and a lot of hop bitter. Kind of a butterscotch hint with strong citrus and floral/perfume. Which could be tropical fruits. It really puckers the mouth. And the hop seems to mutate from time to time. Floral. Citrus. Pineapple? Really great stuff. Brilliant in fact.

Location: 500 ml bottle from Buy Rite - Jersey City, 3/13/11

Aroma: This one has a really nice fresh fruity and hoppy nose, lots of peach, some grapefruit and orange too
Appearance: The pour is a cloudy dark orange-amber color with beige head and medium lace
Flavor: The taste is note quite as fresh and hoppy, nice sweetness, fairly big bitterness
Palate: The body is fairly full it has a somewhat smooth body and a long dry finish
Overall Impression: My 3rd rating from New Zealand, I had to look that up out of curiosity, as I couldn’t remember if I’d ever had anything from New Zealand. Well, I had, but nothing nearly this quality. This was a really nice IPA with a lot of citrus (peach) feel to it. Nice stuff, the nose is really the standout here, but I enjoyed the whole beer.

It’s unclear copper with a creamy head, and the aroma has notes of citrus, exotic fruits and spruce. The flavour is sweet with a nice bitterness and notes of kiwi, pine-needles, grass, and the finish is dry with a suitable bitterness.

Botella from Kihoskh, Copenhagen. Hazy deep orange amber colour, small white head, steady. Lots of hops in the aroma, sweet, herbal like. Good filling mouthfeel. Sweet hoppy bitter flavour, moderate to heavy, pine, good maltiness.

500 ml bottle. From bierkompass.de.
Hazy light brown colour with small white head. Quite interesting aroma with clear evidence of Nelson Sauvin vinous touch. Grapes (white wine), grapefruits and exotic fruits could be mentioned. Strongly hopped bitter flavour with fresh elements. Bitterness stays forever. Surprisingly enjoyable IPA.

Bottle (50 cl) from the Cracked Kettle. Hazy copper, medium off-white head. Strong Nelson Sauvin hop aroma with gooseberries and nettles. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Well balanced with a long bitter finish. The Nelson Sauvin aromas become a bit cloying in the end.
