3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Chunky, chewy, hazy orange and copper coloured body with a dense, thick, microbubbled tan head - this is an amazing looking IPA. Aroma of juicy, mouthwatering pine and grapefruit hops with a touch of honey and citrus, but a very bittering smell. Medium-bodied; Assertive hoppy flavour with some resin and grapefruit, then showing some sweetness of pineapple and a touch of honey and malt. Aftertaste is a bit hoppy, but full of tropical flavours and some light herbal and floral tastes. Overall, a very good looking and smelling beer, but the taste was a bit one dimensional and underhopped in my opinion, especially considering the smell. A strong beer, but not better than most West Coast [American] IPAs. I sampled this tall 500mL bottle purchased from Olive Tree Marketplace in San Diego, California on 08-February-2011 for US$9.99 sampled at home in Washington on 26-February-2011.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at CP&K thanks to madmitch76. It pours a cloudy amber colour with thin white head. The nose is surprisingly sweet; grape, raisin, grapefruit and a little ginger. The taste is orange peel, passion fruit, grapefruit, gooseberry, lemon sherbet and some hay, grass and varnish. Quite a bit sweeter than expected, perhaps I need to drink a fresher batch??

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
18th February 2011
Bottle shared with Mes&Sim, Leighton and Scopey at the CP&K. Cheers! Hazy amber beer. Light off white head. Soft palate. Creamy malt base. Mellow marmalde hops. A little lactose, Very slightly sour. Nice but not quite as good as the other two 8 Wired beers we tried this evening. Reading the description - I didn’t really get all the NZ hoppy goodness. Just decent mellow hops. Maybe a bit tired after it’s long journey? Intriguing - should try this again.

Bottle: Pours a nice unfiltered muddy orange color with a nice big white head. The nose is very floral and fruity with a big melon and earthy leaf note. The flavor is big and sappy, sweet hops and resin with a bunch of pine and lemon notes. Finishes amazingly balanced with a nice big mouthfeel. Very tasty.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 19/20
From a 500ml bottle on 16/2/2011. Pours a golden orange. Has a powerful and impressive fruity, hoppy aroma - lychee, mango, orange, pine and spice are all there is spades. The flavour is equally impressive - sweet caramel malt, with a hop explosion which includes more orange and mango, some passionfruit, and a big dollop of grapefruit. It has some similarities to Brewdog’s Punk IPA, but is more complex and compelling. One of the finest beers I’ve downed to date. This kiwi mob has produced something that’s every bit as impressive a top flight west coast yank IPA.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
500ml Bottle at the Cask Pub & Kitchen, Pimlico on 5 February 2011. Copper/orange colour. Some haze. Excellent fresh, grassy hop presence on the nose. Also some slightly catty notes. Bags of grapefruit and zesty orange peel in the flavour. Mouthfeel is just a shade thin. Quite impressive nevertheless.
