COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We believe HopWired is the first bottled version of a true new world India Pale Ale made with NZ grown base malt and 100% truly unique NZ hops. We bet you’ll find nothing else like it on the shelves. Although the malty sweetness is there, this beer is all about the hops. Unlike an American I.P.A. which will mainly hit you with a grapefruity-citrus flavour and aroma, the unique NZ hops used in HopWired are more like a tropical punchbowl: Passion fruit, lime, oranges and Sauvignon Blanc to name but a few. A local Marlborough winemaker said it smelled like gooseberries... Gooseberries? Who has ever smelled a gooseberry?? Decide for yourself or just enjoy it without further complications. Cheers!

500ml brown bottle. Pours out clear and golden, very large white head, creamy and solid. Nice lacing. Nose has pine notes, some tropical NZ hops, and sharp grapefruit. Taste - big hops, got a mostly grapefruity attack at first with some pine then a background tropical fruitiness. Fruitiness became much more pronounced on the second half of the bottle. Slightly floral and fruity - hints of grape. Finish has more of the fruity floral hop that lingers, and a nice cutting late grapefruit attack in the throat. Medium body, great fine pointed carbonation. Good example of a NZ hopped IPA. Good bitterness and fruity hops, enjoyable and light enough to have more than one...

Cloudy, rusty orange. Thin white head, leaving a bit of lacing. Body on the thin side. More piney than I expected, and has a lingering bitterness. Dark toffee from the malt. The fruit plays second fiddle somewhat, but the sauvignon blanc flavours are there.

Bottle from Brew Bristol. Sparse head, gold colour, clear, nice lacing. Aroma: light citrus covered by milk and strawberries. Bitter taste, light body long bitter finish, flat. Quite alright, however the aroma is not very nice.

On tap at BrewDog Hong Kong. Apperance: Cloudy, amber to golden colour. Thin white head with slight lacing. Aroma: Notes of lychee, pine, grapefruit, resin. Full of new-world hops characteristic. Slight yeast smell. Taste: Medium bitterness and sweetness, with some caramel malt flavour. Palate: Medium body and medium carbonation. Watery mouthfeel with dry, long and crisp finish. Overall: Zesty and vibrant aroma and taste from the southern hemisphere hops. The roasty caramel malt flavour adds perfect complexity to this beer.

The smell is so close to the smell I hate in other beers (sierra Nevada lagunitas) but surprisingly I found this enjoyable. Resinous texture goes great with abv. I’d drink this again.

Okay white head and orange body. Farty aroma, hay funk, a bit of lemon juice in there. A bit of skunk cabbage in there too, sauerkraut maybe. Flavour is sharp grapefruit with a hint of booze. Dry finish. Not bad, but that aroma is kinda funky.

I do not wax on poetically about beer but I do know the quality of a beer once tasted. This review is not about my tastes but reinforces the numbers, which are arbitrary.

Bottle from Hop Hideout, Sheffield. Pours clear golden with an off white head. Nice gooseberry aroma. The taste is nice and hoppy with grapefruit citrus and pine. Good caramel malt backing it up. Great beer with a lingering bitter finish.

500 mL bottle. Slightly hazed copper / amber pour. Big hop aroma, dank pine, resin, tropical fruit. Fair bit of caramel malt in the taste, still lots of tropical fruit with some dankness.
