Beware, this is a BIG beer. Brimming with luscious roasted coffee and chocolate malt flavours which are balanced by a brisk bitterness and bold freshness from the hops. If you’re feeling politically incorrect try it with your favourite cigar, or a dram of your best single malt whisky. Or, if your tooth is sweeter, why not jump in at the deep end with the most decadent dessert of all; half a bottle in a glass with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on top (beer geeks like us know it as the Imperial Stout Float). Or simply enjoy it on its own as a decadent dessert or night cap - the perfect winter warmer! If you don’t already know the history of Russian Imperial Stouts please check it out on the internet, it’s a good story. But remember, although based on that century-old classic style, this beer is a very modern interpretation, like all our beers!

Pours black with a quickly fleeting, thin caramel head. Aromas of coffee, burnt toast, vanilla, butter, and a bit of smoke. Alcohol aroma comes out as it warms. Palate is oily with a fine, muted carbonation. Good body. Taste of bitter chocolate and salted caramel. Bitter, slightly sticky syrup finish. Dumb name, good stout.

Very rich with Soy sauce, Hershey’s Chocolate syrup & prunes. Black as a cloudy night on an eclipse, I had to turn on a few more lights after I opened this beer, it sucked the light out of the room. Head? I don’t think so, a few reddish brown bubbles in a tar pit of blackness. Thick & chewy, a liquified decadent dessert, death by chocolate with a splash of Brandy, pretty damned amazing! IStout? Ay caramba! Rich, luscious, innovative, it leaves me at a loss for words. I’m in love......

Keg. Leeds International Beer Festival. Just about black. Thin, bubbly, sticky, tan head. Thick, viscous, and leggy. Mocha coffee. Vanilla. Fruity hop. Vinous. Taste is sweet coffee. Roast coffee bitter. Has a light, vinous tang. Manages to be smooth and easy drinking. Finishes long, roast coffee bean bitter. Super.

Bottle from Plonk. Pitch black with small tan head. Hoppy aroma, chocolate, mild roastiness. Mildly sweet, chocolate, mild roastiness, low astringency (perfect for me). This is an awesome RIS indeed.

Aroma: dark chocolate, cacao powder, filter coffee, intense, rich, toasted, dark malts. Appearance: black, medium, frothy, beige head. Taste: light sweet. Palate: dry sweets continue, cacao, chocolate, light bitters coming up. Overall: fantastic Imperial Stout, doesn’t feel too heavy nor can you taste the ABV. Bottle from 21 Wines, Brighton.

Keg at Brewdog Brum. Perilously drinkable. Smooth, like a fur lined ashtray. Beautiful coffee, gorgeously humming hop underlay. Super good.

Black ink body, small brown head. Waho. Crazy aroma. Fresh floral hops are figthing with roasted coffee. Then chocolate, dark fruits and light vanilla notes kicks in. Taste as great. First caramel liquorice with plum. Then fresh hops and rosted coffee. Warm liquorice comes back with chocolate and it takes you to a super long caramel, chocolate finish which evolve with the liquorice to bring bitterness and dryness from hops. Crazy beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
