Beware, this is a BIG beer. Brimming with luscious roasted coffee and chocolate malt flavours which are balanced by a brisk bitterness and bold freshness from the hops. If you’re feeling politically incorrect try it with your favourite cigar, or a dram of your best single malt whisky. Or, if your tooth is sweeter, why not jump in at the deep end with the most decadent dessert of all; half a bottle in a glass with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on top (beer geeks like us know it as the Imperial Stout Float). Or simply enjoy it on its own as a decadent dessert or night cap - the perfect winter warmer! If you don’t already know the history of Russian Imperial Stouts please check it out on the internet, it’s a good story. But remember, although based on that century-old classic style, this beer is a very modern interpretation, like all our beers!

Bottle at Christmas. Thanks Martin. What a beer. Pours darkest Brown/Black with a thin Tan head. Aroma is enticing and promises rich Chocolate and Coffee roast. Tastes great. Robust and with all the hallmark flavours of a world class imperial. Thick and ever so more-ish. Velvety smooth. Absolutely delicious.

Pitch black with a thin tan head. Aroma is coffee and roasted malt sweetness. The taste is more coffee and dark malts, with a solid almost metallic hop twang. It has a slightly sour flavour, developing into dark chocolate with a long warming bitter aftertaste. Hoppy stouts are great in my book, this one may have faded a bit on the journey from NZ, but the solid stout base makes this a cracking beer still.

Tief malziger Antrunk mit leichter Süße. Schokoladennoten, etwas Alkohol, steigende Herbe. Wenig fruchtig, die Malzigkeit dominiert weiterhin. Kaffeenoten, zum Ende auch leicht rauchig. Vollmundig, zum Ende steigt der Alkohol in die Nase. 8/10/11/12/12/12

Bardzo porzadne piwo. Ciemne, czarne i geste. Smoliste zarazem i lepkie. Wspaniale.

Pours in black body, low to medium tan head. Aroma has caramel, candy sugar, toffee, chocolate, light milk, cocoa, pretty complex aroma. Taste has roasty sweetness, bacon character, medium noble bitterness. Body is full, high carbonation.

Pours motor oil black with a short lived beige cap. The aroma is Black licorice, coffee, dark chocolate. The flavour is a reflection of the aroma to a T. Its about as straight forward as an imperial stout gets, it doesn’t pretend to be anything else. It does what its suppose to do, and it does it well. Solid.

March 11, 2014. 500mL bottle from LCBO. Very dark brown with a chocolate brown head that dissipated quickly. Coffee and chocolate aromas. Bitter chocolate and coffee flavours, with hints of molasses. Sharpness in aftertaste, lingering bitterness.

Bottle. Big thick imperial stout, just the way I like it! Massive roasty flavour and strong bitterness with a massive mouthfeel. Not perfect but pretty close!
