Beware, this is a BIG beer. Brimming with luscious roasted coffee and chocolate malt flavours which are balanced by a brisk bitterness and bold freshness from the hops. If you’re feeling politically incorrect try it with your favourite cigar, or a dram of your best single malt whisky. Or, if your tooth is sweeter, why not jump in at the deep end with the most decadent dessert of all; half a bottle in a glass with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on top (beer geeks like us know it as the Imperial Stout Float). Or simply enjoy it on its own as a decadent dessert or night cap - the perfect winter warmer! If you don’t already know the history of Russian Imperial Stouts please check it out on the internet, it’s a good story. But remember, although based on that century-old classic style, this beer is a very modern interpretation, like all our beers!

viscous and black as the inside of a malayan tapir. cool creamy tan head with bubbles that sink. serious pipe tobacco and leather armchair sort of aroma (willamette in there) with a fair bit of hop presence. lovely rich and malty body with some fruity new world hop flavours and toasty charcoal. bitter and hoppy. intense and rich stuff, with care taken to layer the flavours - very nice. a bit too much grapefruit from the hops for my liking - not a fan of grapefruit in my stouts - i know im in a minority there.

Flaske, 50 cl. Knaldsort sag. Flot lysebrun skumkrone. Ristet malt, lakrids. Tjære, tobak, let tørv. Sødmefuld, men med en tør, ristet bitter finish.

500ml bottle. Pours black with a light brown head and aroma of roast malt, treacle, smoke, coffee, chocolate. Taste is sweet malty, brown sugar, dark fruits, coffee & chocolate plus some lingering roasted notes and grassy, hop bitterness. Silky smooth mouthfeel, full bodied, soft carbonation, dry roast bitter finish. Very drinkable.

Approximately 6 oz. pour from a 25.4 oz. bottle, provided by ElGaucho. Consumed on 4-19-14. Pours dark brown with an amber hue and a small amount of beige head. Sophisticated, complex aroma and flavor are dominated by roasted malts and feature chocolate, vanilla, char, tar, coffee, plum, and toffee elements. Dry finish and aftertaste. Medium to full body. Lively in the palate. This is a damn good beer, and actually my favorite consumed in a small tasting in a very strong lineup. Surprisingly excellent. I notice that a lot of foreign beers inspired by the American craft brewing movement have just a bit of a twist compared to their American counterparts, and this New Zealand take on an American-style imperial stout twists just the right way. Well done, 8 Wired!

Oil black and great aroma. Roasty and a bit of hops on the backend and some caramel but nice finish overall. Really a solid stout that doesnt feel heavy and has a nice mouthfeel.

Bottle. Milk chocolate aroma with no soy sauce. Opaque black body. Excellent lace. Really awesome flavor. Coffee finish with dark chocolate notes and a substantial hop profile that is not completely overwhelmed by the rich malts.

Bottle. Aroma has strong chocolate, roasted malts. You can almost smell the black colour. Taste is strong chocolate and roasted. Oily texture. Rather light body. Lacks a bit of complexity, otherwise very good beer.

Bottle from the BrewDog website. Poured black with a large, dense brown head. Malty aroma, with notes rich, dark fruit cake and cocoa. Roasted malt flavours with some liquorice and molasses. Wonderful, silky, syrupy mouth feel. Finish was black treacle, burnt bread, espresso and roasted nuts.

Flaska. Uzasna farba "cierna tma" s krasnou hustou hnedou penou, ktora drzi velmi dlho. Olejove tony po okraji pohara. Vo voni citit horku cokoladu, lieskove oriesky a v pozadi mlieko. Chutovo zo zaciatku kysle, co moze byt sposobene chutou silna kava. Neskor lieskove oriesky, jemny alkohol a velmi jemna horkost. Uzasne pivo.
