Beware, this is a BIG beer. Brimming with luscious roasted coffee and chocolate malt flavours which are balanced by a brisk bitterness and bold freshness from the hops. If you’re feeling politically incorrect try it with your favourite cigar, or a dram of your best single malt whisky. Or, if your tooth is sweeter, why not jump in at the deep end with the most decadent dessert of all; half a bottle in a glass with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on top (beer geeks like us know it as the Imperial Stout Float). Or simply enjoy it on its own as a decadent dessert or night cap - the perfect winter warmer! If you don’t already know the history of Russian Imperial Stouts please check it out on the internet, it’s a good story. But remember, although based on that century-old classic style, this beer is a very modern interpretation, like all our beers!

Poured black, slight light brown head with fine bubbles. Aromas are subtle hoppy coffee notes, with toasted malts and chocolate followed with hints of cherries. Flavors are bitter citrus and hops, strong coffee and malt notes, subtle cherry flavors at the back end. Finish; very brisk stout, fairly well balanced, leaving more on the bitter side then the sweet side, alcohol is well hidden. This is a great beer will buy more when available.

Bottle from Tanakaya. Pours a deep brown to black with a finger of tan foam that dissipates fairly quickly. Treacle aromas stand out with loads of bakers chocolate. Soy sauce on the palate, with more cacao and umami. Umami bomb, fairly one-dimensional impy. Just not good enough to be world class. Nice first try at an imperial stout though.

Poured bottle into Teku. Full caramel and chocolate aroma. Thick mouthfeel. Sweet. Intense. Sweet again. Awesome imperial stout.

Aroma: Lots of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, vanilla. Appearance: "Motor oil" black, tan 1-finger creamy head. Taste: Medium sweet, medium bitter, very complex, dark chocolate taste is dominant but anyway well balanced. Palate: Full body, creamy slick texture, soft carbonation, long sweet and roasty finish. Overall: Nice balanced, very tasty, with good drinkability for abv, great imperial stout.

500ml bottle. Black in colour with a thin beige head, thin lacing. The aroma is very roasty, lots of chocolate, vanilla, light coffee, moderate sweetness. The flavour is very roasty, toasted malts, chocolate and vanilla, some cream, sweet at the end. Roasty sweet mouthfeel, medium body, mild carbonation. Finishes long and roasty, sweet at the end, some alcohol warmth. A really nice Imperial Stout. Not the biggest body but there is lots going on.

Great for my ipad, I guess. Poured at 12.1 celcius it has huge head but dissipates a little too quickly, jet black licorice body. Heavy fusels, molasses, sugar mixed with motor oil on the nose, no finesse to it just brute force of sweetness and alcohol. Flavour is subdued, swampwater candy with hints of chocolate. Pretty good but not complex enough for its accolades.

Superbe stout.

Tasting at my place. Dikke zoete melasse dijk, mooi zacht en goed in balans maar ondertussen flink hoppig. Chocolade, koffie, autobanden met vanille. Backlog from 2015/05/26.

Thick black with a medium beige head. Roasted malts aroma, with notes of coffee and vanilla. Silky and smooth to the palate, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, caramel, roasted malts and hops. Well balanced, not too boozy. Fantastic stout.
