Beware, this is a BIG beer. Brimming with luscious roasted coffee and chocolate malt flavours which are balanced by a brisk bitterness and bold freshness from the hops. If you’re feeling politically incorrect try it with your favourite cigar, or a dram of your best single malt whisky. Or, if your tooth is sweeter, why not jump in at the deep end with the most decadent dessert of all; half a bottle in a glass with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on top (beer geeks like us know it as the Imperial Stout Float). Or simply enjoy it on its own as a decadent dessert or night cap - the perfect winter warmer! If you don’t already know the history of Russian Imperial Stouts please check it out on the internet, it’s a good story. But remember, although based on that century-old classic style, this beer is a very modern interpretation, like all our beers!

Real classy stout. Pours pitch black with small crema coloured head. Taste is chocolate, coffee, really nice liquorice hit, finishes sweet and slightly bitter. Lovely rich mouthfeel. Quality.

Bottle. Dark body, small head. Roasty aroma with sweet dry cocoa. Tase is sweet and a bit too roasty. Flavours include cola, sweet black coffee and bitter cocoa. A bit too much roast dryness for my tastes. The cola-like sweetness in the finish becomes a bit too much as half of the bottle is finished. Eventually it almost turns into a coffee liqueur. A respectable Imperial Stout but it’s really too simplistic to deserve a general score of "100" and "95" for the style.

Bottle from Beers’n’more. Coffee, vanilla, chocolate, as a classic great ImpStout. Sweet, intense and heavy. A bit sticky. Cocoa powder. I waited for this beer 20 months after not buying it the first time, and it almost lives up to that. But just almost.

500 ml bottle from Hawthorne Cellars. Pours jet back with medium dark tan head. Mild aroma of chocolate and perhaps some coffee. Flavour is much bolder - bitter chocolate, coffee, hops, and malt. More bitter (in a good way) and less sweet than other imperial stouts. Really good. Interesting note. I had the Batch 2.18 barrel-aged stout yesterday and it did not have the happiness and bitterness that the iStout has. Either it mellowed with the ageing or has a different base stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from eDrinks (€ 4.58). BB unreadable, again! Pours dark brown with creamy mocha head that drops to form a ring and a film. The aroma is thick, sweet, dark roast, fudgey, chocolaty. Tastes sweet with slightly herbal bitter finish. A bit harsh but otherwise lovely, the 10.0% is rather well disguised. Not among the most enjoyable of Impies but alright. Can’t really push up the score in any category...

Bottle. Black beer, small off-white head. Nose is chocolate, soy, roast, coffee. Flavor is coffee, roast, citric hops, bitterness, touch of soy. Wood and smoke notes in the finish, citric hops, licorice, roasty acidity. Lingering roast plus citurs from the hops. Oily mouthfeel. Big and heavy beer, heavyness is nicely offset by the hops.
