COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Beware, this is a BIG beer. Brimming with luscious roasted coffee and chocolate malt flavours which are balanced by a brisk bitterness and bold freshness from the hops. If you’re feeling politically incorrect try it with your favourite cigar, or a dram of your best single malt whisky. Or, if your tooth is sweeter, why not jump in at the deep end with the most decadent dessert of all; half a bottle in a glass with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on top (beer geeks like us know it as the Imperial Stout Float). Or simply enjoy it on its own as a decadent dessert or night cap - the perfect winter warmer! If you don’t already know the history of Russian Imperial Stouts please check it out on the internet, it’s a good story. But remember, although based on that century-old classic style, this beer is a very modern interpretation, like all our beers!

Aroma is sweet chocolate malt and a little booziness. Not detecting much for hops Pours a pitch black with a minuscule light brown head that disappeared quite quickly with little lacing. Taste is big chocolate malt up front, followed by some bitter coffee, making way for a nice dose of hop bitterness and a bit of boozy burn on thaw aftertaste. Medium bodied, good drinkability. Overall a nicely done imperial. Would definitely try again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from an oversized bottle into a stem glass. Pours black with a toffee head. Good lacing. Aroma is dark dried fruit, chocolate, roasted malts, and spices. Flavour is wonderfully balanced sweetness of raisin, date, chocolate, caramel, toffee, and expresso against lively hops. I love this New Zealand Russian IPA.

(8 Wired iStout) Bottle 500 ml from a trade with Orson0368, thanks Paul! Served into a snifter, ABV 10% Totally black pour, with a tall and thick dark brown head on top, with very good retention, leaving medium lacing on the glass. Aroma has hops with light citrus, roasted malts, nice chocolate malts, vanilla, light alcohol. Taste is a sweet dessert in a glass. Sweet, lots of chocolate, vanilla, alcohol barely notable, hops present with a nice citrus flavour, bitterness starts developing towards the finish, carrying on to the aftertaste with long duration. Full body, carbonation on just the right levels, sticky but also dry on the palate. Fantastic beer.

[6285-20140425] Bottle. Chocolate malt aroma. Black body with a long-lasting foamy brown head. Creamy roasted chocolate malt flavour. Full body is smooth. Delicious and very drinkable, has a cumulative roastiness. (9/4/9/4/18) 4.4

Bottle. Pours black, with an enormous creamy mocha head. Aroma is fantastic roasted malts with cocoa and liquorice, as well as coffee, wooden barrels and tobacco. Full, velvety body, with creamy texture, and with almost no carbonation. Flavour is burned malts, with coffee, cocoa and liquorice, as well as vanilla wooden barrels, tobacco and some herbal notes. Lingering sweet malty finish, with cocoa and liquorice. Big, bodacious and brilliant, and definitely not a session beer.

Close to black beer, brownish persistent foam. Rich lacings all over the glassware. Aroma; chocolate, black malts, coffee, smoke, liquorice, anise, mint, citrus, leather, cocoa, dust... Taste; dark chocolate, sweet black syrupy caramel malts, sweet mealy coffee, liquorice, faint spices, candied grassy hops, prunes and raisins. More black chocolate and liquorice in finish, plus milky dark notes. Soft, well bodied, a bit flourish, almost as a cream sometimes. Quite nice for us, who love czech svetlys, too. Superb late evening slow sipper, and 50cl bottle is possible to share with a friend. Less expensive than cognac anyway... [50cl brown btl, abv10%, BB13.08.15, 11€, B@Vinmonopolet Langnes Tromsö]

Keg at BrewDog Birmingham. Pitch black with little head but considerable lacing. Molasses/treacle, coffee and caramel aroma. Taste is sweet at first but it quickly morphs into an intense, almost acrid bitterness. Medium to long bitter espresso finish. Hop bite in the aftertaste. Very drinkable for the ABV. The palette is thinner than many imperial stouts, which adds to the accessibility of this brew.

Aroma of roasted malt, lots of coffee, dark chocolate, some liquorice. Flavour is medium sweet with a medium bitter finish. Drinks easily, like a lower ABV beer. Smooth and balanced.

Annak ellenére, hogy többféle imperial stout sört kóstoltam már (sőt, pl a Mikkeller Black szériájában több kedvencem is akad), ez valahogy nem adott semmi érdekeset számomra. Amolyan "unalmas" (vagy átlagos i.s) sörnek tűnt. Kár.

From the bottle at a beer tasting in Tap 66, Xiamen. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of chocolate, toffee and malt. Complex. Bitter sweet finish.
