My idea of a strong ale was brewed with loads of malt, hops, jaggery and a touch of manuka smoke.
It was fermented with a clean ale yeast to let the ingredients speak for themselves without getting interrupted by too many esters.
After all that it was aged for 5 months on American oak, then refermented in the bottle.

Bottle from Healthy Spirits. Pours murky copper with a rich beige head and a toffee and candy aroma. There is a full-bodied dark malt flavor complemented by a very nice hop profile that meshes well with the malt. Nicely bitter oak finish.

Iíve been having so many good beers recently, can hardly remember the last time I was disappointed. I feel kinda guilty somehow. This is another exceptional offering from my long time favorite 8 Wired. Pours a beautiful deep reddish amber. My nose is a tad stuffy and the glassware isnít quite right so having a bit of difficulty picking up subtleties in the aroma. Stone fruit and smoke is all Iím getting. The taste is obviously incredibly complex with a punch of smoke up front, molasses, some marmite, and a beautiful fruity finish. Itís a nice marrying of flavors and the silky buttery palate makes everything even more delicious.

Awww.. great brew.. Intense malty, caramel, loads of hops, wood, intense fruitiness. Somewhat reminds barley wine. Quite thick and syrupy. Sweet with nice bitterness. Great balance and great in each aspect. Gimme moaaar

Pours deep red wine reddish with small off-white top. Aroma - fruity dominant, but not citrusy - more kind of peaches or mango. Thick, caramely flavor with loads of hops, intense bitterness is most welcomed. Palate - astringent on tongue, medium+ to full body, dry and oily finish, thick mouthfell, pleasant bitter aftertaste with light fruity sweetness. From 8 wired session this definitely goes in Top3-Nr.1.

Bottle from Star Grocery in Berkeley, CA. Pours hazy dark amber with a transient beige head. Aroma is a bit medicinal. With a chocolate hint. Or is there anise? Difficult. Med + body. Flavor is strong hop - earthy/citrus, moving on to some brown sugar, then to a woody astringency, then to something really earthy. Finishes with an anise hint in the nose with each sip, but quite non-anise. I think Iím finally getting a light smoke - sort of like the liquid smoke available in stores. This is a very challenging ale to dissect. Really good tho.

Pour dark amber almost brown, no real head or carbonation. String roasted malt and whiskey aromas. Molasses, raisin,oak make it a rich solid beer. Thick and fruity, upfront is a Christmas cake like fruit and sugar, but following that is a woody malty, chocolate beer. Smooth finish, like a nice liquor, smokey malts and fruit hop bitterness round this great beer out. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This was a such a lovely treat from Jimthechap. The beer pours dark reddish copper, very crystal translucid, raising incredible aromas of a malt base, of course, but with plenty of cloying sweet treats such as honey and maple syrup. There is a peaty flavour to it, actually running just below the main alcohol vein. Peat and whisky on the flavours, above a vast malty bed. The beer feels a bit resinous, quite nice. Thereís only the whisky element to stop one from pillaging this bottle more at ease. I would have called it a Barley Wine, but perhaps I do not know enough of both sytles.

Tasted alongside my learned friend Cantabrian. There is a gorgeous roseat ruby colour and a white head that gains a thoroughly unusual full set of appearance marks from me. The aroma is almost medicinal with stewed rhubarb, cherryvite, red licorice, mahogany and rosewood. The aroma is complex, intriguing and inviting. Its body is thick and oily with sweetness and astringent bitternesss that adds to the growing sense of well-being and satisfaction. The finish is lengthy with berry loveliness. Just wow. A beautiful beer and one to add to the long list of 8 Wired beers to cellar.

Mighty ale indeed and much like a Barley Wine.....kinda! anyway apart from all the "little pinky out" bullshit itís a good one.

33cl bottle, which is actually double bottle capped and I have never seen or even heard of this before, pours with a clear deep ruby red body that supports a light tan head. The aroma offers up sweet musty prunes and figs as well as pine nuanced caramel malts and a mineral sense at the end of the draw. Thereís surprisingly little of the big 11% ABV coming through. The taste is very barleywine like with sweet malts and sticky pine hops, some caramel malts and then murmurs of cherry and prune sweet fruity esters in the background. There is a hop note in there too but Iím struggling to put words to it. Thereís lingering pine hops that show up into the after taste. Like the nose the booziness is well restrained in this big big beer. Dandy sipper.
