3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Wow..kind of shocked me as I was pouring. Thick and muddy. Reddish brown colour. Aromas oak, smoke, and vanilla. No booze present. Flavours are barrel, a bit of smoke but a great balance between malts and hop. A big beer to be sure. And a tasty one. Thanks Dresden.

Bottle. Nice clear amber colour. Big and boozy on the nose. Burnt caramel type flavours with a heap of bitterness. Great beer if you like strong, bitter beers.

Bottle. Dark bronze color. Nice aroma of smoked ham, malt, caramel, vanilla and oak. Taste is diverse, with oaky vanilla, smoked ham, rauchmalt, soft red fruit and some coffee bitter in the finish. Rich and mighty beer indeed, creative as well. Very good.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle, poured into 16oz tulip glass
Aroma: sweet, almost bourbon-like, alcohol, toffee, maybe butterscotch, slight vanilla
Appearance: brown, cloudy, minimal tan head
Taste: medium sweet, slight bitterness on finish
Palate: medium to full body, average carbonation
Overall: Was taking a NZ friend on a tour of local store, he pointed out that this was from one of the NZ breweries and since I can’t remember ever having a NZ beer before, I picked it up. Very boozy. Have no idea how old the bottle is, could have sat on the shelf for a year or more. Interesting brown color with loads of barrel/oak flavors. Big aroma and taste of alcohol. Very smooth, no harsh bite, but a big ABV. A very nice high ABV, oak barrel aged beer.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A good year in the bottle it is high time to crack this one. At cellar temperature and into a snifter. Settles a shady and misted deep chestnut with a well held, cappuccino foam atop. A hint of play doh™ precedes some hefty, peated whisky notes that are boozy and piercingly spicy. There is oak, vanillin, burnt caramel and nutty toffee, savoury dried fruit like raisins and muscatels but it is that aroma of Islay Singles that dominates. Viscous and oily body. Quite some depth. A lot of that aroma coming through with huge whisky notes (not a whisky barrel aged beer so weird!) with vanillin, oak, blackbutt honey and fortified port-like notes. Woody nutty and earthy mid-palate. Long, smoky and peated finish with enough booze to give you heart-burn. A lengthy ale and quite an adventure but one was enough.
