Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours black with a fluffy, khaki head. Aroma of oaky vanilla, smoke, dry wood, earthy notes and chocolate. Touch of dried fruits and nuts. Taste is smoky vanilla, medicinal notes and a resin hop flavour. Bit of warmth on the way down and a nice lasting bitterness. Interesting brew, worth a try for sure.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark burnt tangerine pour with a small eggshell head that left a spot or two inside of the glass. Caramel, toffee, toasted marshmallow, smoke, vanilla, and hops. Interesting combination. Sweet but not cloying. The alcohol is present but isnít distracting. A bit thick and syrupy. Not bad.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
11.2oz bottle. Mostly clear dark red color. Little khaki head. Couple small dots of lace. Big caramel, spicy malts up front. Some bitter, earthy spicy hop, but malts are prominent. Moderate sweet taste, with a bigger alcohol bite. Big body. Smooth, lighter carbonation. Lightly dry finish. Nice moderate smoke in the finish noticeable more as it warms up. Hints of chocolate. Interesting, complex, but a little boozy and sweet.

Bottle pour deep amber color. Nose very barleywine like with loads of sweet malt, booze, and the faintest hint if smoke. Taste bracing bitter up front, then toffee, caramel, and sweet malt. Syrupy mouthfeel. Finish bitter with smoke. Very interesting beer, but didnít love it.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Rich ugly brown colour. Aroma is caramel and toffee booming out. Taste is strong rich caramel with a thick mouthfeel. Mild bitterness at end, but interacting well between the caramel malt. Finish is a tad sticky sweet. Overall, a great beer, and one of my favourites from 8 Wired.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
From a 330ml bottle on 25/8/2013 (batch 103, BB March 18). Pours a slightly cloudy amber with a smallish head. Has a quite a strong aroma of caramel and toffee. This one is a huge malt bomb featuring caramel, toffee, butterscotch, nuts and toast. along with curious dash of fruitiness as well. The smoke is there but itís quite subtle. Finishes off with a pronounced, almost medicinal, hop bitterness. This comes across as a very big beer, with the 11% quite evident. The palate is quite syrupy and the carbonation moderate. Not a subtle beer by any means, but there is a hell of a lot going on with it. A very full on, complex offering, which is unsurprising from these guys.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, 14C. Clear bronze with a pale beige head that lasts well. Aroma of toffee, smokey honey, figs and other dried fruit, hazelnuts, spices, alcohol. Syrupy but with a very pleasing creaminess. Rather sweet and quite boozy, although only a little hot. Toffee, dried fruit, nuts and orange peel. Spices build and the finish is lightly smokey with spices and honey. Bitterness is fairly discreet. Not a graceful drop (maybe it will mellow) but thereís lots going on and it hangs together. 330ml is a lot of this - not that Iím getting tired of it, just that itís a slow drinker.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
330ml bottle. Pours a hazy deep copper, with a moderate off-white head, which does not last all that well but does leave good lacing. Savoury biscuit malt, spicy, fruity hops and a touch of smoke create the aroma. Spicy, peppery hops up front give way to a sweeter candied fruit flavour. Savoury nut and biscuit malt notes in the mid-palate blend with vanillin oak, with oak and smoke in the finish, which leaves a lingering warmth. This is quite a pleasant, flavoursome ale from a quality brewer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
330ml bottle. Cloudy dark brown, minimal cap, but the tight bubbles cascade off the sides. Aroma is pungent raisin, vanilla, root, wood. Taste is much the same, but with peach, and hay. A late-comer smokey dryness peeks in, but not sustained. Pretty boozy, but for the most part, it's just big, deep malts that drive this beast.
