COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
”Poor old misunderstood brown ale... This is perhaps the most versatile style of beer in the world, yet it is often frowned upon, but why? Is it because the word BROWN doesn’t cling right, perhaps it leads the mind towards less appetizing things? Is it because the colour BROWN is less snazzy than, say ’golden’?? Or is it because the duopoly of NZ brewing have driven the BROWN style into oblivion by claiming the style for their most unattractive products??? We’ll let you think about that while you sip this beer, either in the sun on the beach or in front of the barbie, with your afternoon steak and cheese pie, with your Sunday roast or just by itself because you are thirsty and deserve a treat! Chances are this is unlike any Brown Ale you have ever tasted, it is malty, hoppy and flavourful. Some might say it is Brown Ale re-defined, we’d say it’s REWIRED. Cheers!”

Love the label description. Not Stone long with small writing but still gets a point across. Pours a red-brown. Woodsy hop aroma in the nose. Nice little fizz to it. Bitterness hangs around at a low pleasant level. Quite good.

Bottle (50 cl) from the Cracked Kettle. Deep clear ruby, large rocky beige head. Nutty and toffeish malt aroma, with some roasted salmiak notes. Medium bodied and smooth. Fairly dry with bitter finish.

Bottle at CPK with Scopey, Mes and MadMitch. Clear, light brown-gold pour with a filmy head. Classic brown ale nose, lightly roasty and very malty. Alright flavor, light to medium in sweetness, with notes of faint roast and mild cocoa. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Finishes with light brown sugar, some cocoa malts, a bit of dryness. Some hops come through nicely in the finish as well. Good beer.

It’s red-brown with a creamy and lasting head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, caramel, nuts, light chocolate and fruit. The flavour is moderately sweet with a dry bitterness, that surprises me in a BA. The notes are citrus, grass, light caramel and chocolate, and the finish is dry and bitter. It’s nice, but maybe too hoppy to be a BA.

UPDATED: APR 1, 2011 Pours dark chocolate with a bit of a reddish hue. Nice beige head that leaves lacing throughout. Aroma is roasted nuts and chocolate-caramel. Very pleasant aroma. Pretty light bodied with a decent amount of carbonation...was to be expected from an ale like this. Nice, sweet, nutty toffee flavor that finishes with a good amount of hop bitterness. That was a little unexpected. I was interested to try something new and different. This is one I will try again.

22oz bottle. Rating #47. Nice light sweet malt aroma, no off aromas at all, no hops that I could discern (not that I was expecting any). Very dark brown in color with some red highlights and a light tan head that clung very nicely to the glass. Light toasty bitterness that was enhanced by some nice hops. Nice little aftertaste and a real nice brown. (1498)

Bottle: Almost clear, deep amber coloured, mid-sized lacy beige head; dry toasty to chocolatey nose with exotic fruits and a good dash of piney hops underneat; soloid dryish bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied; lingering, mainly dry piney-citrussy hoppy finish, some chocolatey flavours around. A Kiwi goody.....

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2011 Nice red/brown colour with a medium beige head. A slightly sweet, roasty aroma with hints of nuts, chocolate and a piney hop aroma. Quite a rich malt backing with coffee beans coming through. Finishes with a piney citric hoppy bitterness. A better version of creatures single batch brown ale

From a bottle poured a dark brown color with a good amount of head. Nice toasted malty flavor with a lingering aftertaste.
