COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
”Poor old misunderstood brown ale... This is perhaps the most versatile style of beer in the world, yet it is often frowned upon, but why? Is it because the word BROWN doesn’t cling right, perhaps it leads the mind towards less appetizing things? Is it because the colour BROWN is less snazzy than, say ’golden’?? Or is it because the duopoly of NZ brewing have driven the BROWN style into oblivion by claiming the style for their most unattractive products??? We’ll let you think about that while you sip this beer, either in the sun on the beach or in front of the barbie, with your afternoon steak and cheese pie, with your Sunday roast or just by itself because you are thirsty and deserve a treat! Chances are this is unlike any Brown Ale you have ever tasted, it is malty, hoppy and flavourful. Some might say it is Brown Ale re-defined, we’d say it’s REWIRED. Cheers!”

Really enjoyed the nutty characters of this beer, it was easy drinking, no overwhelming flavours and good balance with the bitterness.

Clear mahogany with a beige head. Smells of burnt sugars, apples, peaches, citrus, grasses. Taste has lot of Australian-like caramel sweetness with a bit of fruit to round it out. There’s a little sourness under the (just over-) balancing bitterness. Crisp hoppy finish. I suppose this is about what you’d think - it’s an English style beer with slightly plainer malt and punchy Kiwi hop flavours.

Bottle. Pours a nice deep brown with a reddish tinge near the side of the glass. Smallish tan coloured head that hangs around till the end. Good lacing. Good looking beer. Aromas are quite sweet with plenty of toffee and dark caramel. A little roasted malt and a huge floral hit from the hops. Really nice aromas. Flavours are equally as good with heaps of toffee up front with some bitterness at the finish thanks to the hops and the toasted malt. Just a touch of sourness balances the whole thing out. Mouthfeel is just a little thin but still a bloody great beer all the same, Really enjoyed this one.

Bottle. Clear reddish brown body with a short beige head that quickly disappears. Aroma is quite hoppy with notes of citrus, pine, toffee and nuts. Flavour is slightly less hoppy and a little bit more roasty, but essentially the same as the aroma. Mouthfeel is light and oily with moderately high carbonation and a lasting bitter finish. Brown ales are not really my favourite style but this is the second I have tried recently that has been rather impressive (the other being Baird Angry Boy). Rich and full bodied yet refreshing and easy to drink.

Nice. Clearly a new world style with plenty of hop input. Has a ’Rogue’ feel about it - think pretty herbal and fruity hops. Malts are tight and a touch roasty, but it’s more about the hops with this beer. Packs good punch for a beer under 6%.

A decent hoppy brown ale, though a little lacking in malt complexity. Not really my style of beers though. Well made, just not my thing. Needs more malt.

Lovely - warm chocolate-like malt notes, cut against by crisp late hopped aroma and bitterness. Very sexy indeed.

500 ml bottle Aroma: Hoppy with a hint of tanned leather. Appearance: Dark reddish brown, clear and frothy, thin head, good lacing Taste: Strongly bitter Palate: Medium to full body, light creamy texture, average carbonation and astringent finish Overall: Drinkable. Not complex or particularly remarkable but certainly a brown ale.

Tap. Great, unique beer. Aromas of grass, roasted caramel, and liquorice. Taste is sweet, with light bitter notes, and long lasting. Palate is velvety, with a medium body, and lively carbonation. Dark brown, with a frothy white head.
