”Poor old misunderstood brown ale... This is perhaps the most versatile style of beer in the world, yet it is often frowned upon, but why? Is it because the word BROWN doesn’t cling right, perhaps it leads the mind towards less appetizing things? Is it because the colour BROWN is less snazzy than, say ’golden’?? Or is it because the duopoly of NZ brewing have driven the BROWN style into oblivion by claiming the style for their most unattractive products??? We’ll let you think about that while you sip this beer, either in the sun on the beach or in front of the barbie, with your afternoon steak and cheese pie, with your Sunday roast or just by itself because you are thirsty and deserve a treat! Chances are this is unlike any Brown Ale you have ever tasted, it is malty, hoppy and flavourful. Some might say it is Brown Ale re-defined, we’d say it’s REWIRED. Cheers!”

Bottle. Clear reddish brown body with a short beige head that quickly disappears. Aroma is quite hoppy with notes of citrus, pine, toffee and nuts. Flavour is slightly less hoppy and a little bit more roasty, but essentially the same as the aroma. Mouthfeel is light and oily with moderately high carbonation and a lasting bitter finish. Brown ales are not really my favourite style but this is the second I have tried recently that has been rather impressive (the other being Baird Angry Boy). Rich and full bodied yet refreshing and easy to drink.

Nice. Clearly a new world style with plenty of hop input. Has a ’Rogue’ feel about it - think pretty herbal and fruity hops. Malts are tight and a touch roasty, but it’s more about the hops with this beer. Packs good punch for a beer under 6%.

A decent hoppy brown ale, though a little lacking in malt complexity. Not really my style of beers though. Well made, just not my thing. Needs more malt.

Lovely - warm chocolate-like malt notes, cut against by crisp late hopped aroma and bitterness. Very sexy indeed.

500 ml bottle Aroma: Hoppy with a hint of tanned leather. Appearance: Dark reddish brown, clear and frothy, thin head, good lacing Taste: Strongly bitter Palate: Medium to full body, light creamy texture, average carbonation and astringent finish Overall: Drinkable. Not complex or particularly remarkable but certainly a brown ale.

Tap. Great, unique beer. Aromas of grass, roasted caramel, and liquorice. Taste is sweet, with light bitter notes, and long lasting. Palate is velvety, with a medium body, and lively carbonation. Dark brown, with a frothy white head.

An interesting take on a brown ale. I found the hops character a little out of favour with malt character... But it is an interesting take nonetheless... Good job.

Dark brown in colour with cream coloured head. Mild chocolate flavour, smooth silky mouthfeel, well balanced and bitterness lingers for ages. Yummy.

Found this to be in porter territory. Had that defining roasty ness to it with a little splash of hops on top though it didn’t have a chalky, jagged finish a porter might often have. Well rounded and obviously Soren knows his stuff just not my bag of hops. Nate mate great!

Bottle (Batch#1). Pours very dark brown with a creamy light brown head. It’s roasty on the nose with underlying fruity hops. Chocolate malt comes through in the flavour and a fruity hop burst balances out the malt. A roasty finish but perhaps slightly chalky and a ’soapy’ character too. It’s quite subtle all round but this has real potential. Courtesy of the man himself - cheers mate!
