”Poor old misunderstood brown ale... This is perhaps the most versatile style of beer in the world, yet it is often frowned upon, but why? Is it because the word BROWN doesn’t cling right, perhaps it leads the mind towards less appetizing things? Is it because the colour BROWN is less snazzy than, say ’golden’?? Or is it because the duopoly of NZ brewing have driven the BROWN style into oblivion by claiming the style for their most unattractive products??? We’ll let you think about that while you sip this beer, either in the sun on the beach or in front of the barbie, with your afternoon steak and cheese pie, with your Sunday roast or just by itself because you are thirsty and deserve a treat! Chances are this is unlike any Brown Ale you have ever tasted, it is malty, hoppy and flavourful. Some might say it is Brown Ale re-defined, we’d say it’s REWIRED. Cheers!”

Sample @ CBC. Pours red-brown with a off white head. Notes of grape, citrus and red orange in aroma. Taste has a quite heavy malty base and hops that tastes like red grape. Well balanced.

UPDATED: MAY 2, 2013 500ml bottle pours a deep amber color with a finger and a half of light beige head that settles to reveal some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is light roasted grains with hints of chocolate and citrus. Taste is a light roasted grain and citrus hop bitterness balanced nicely with a chocolate malty sweetness. A pretty well done brown ale that I recommend others to try it.

Pours a clear dark brown with a big frothy brown head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of citrusy and grassy hops, slight roasted malt, hint of caramel sweetness. Taste is grassy hops, roasted malts, coffee and sweet toffee on the finish with a nice dry finish and a smooth bitterness on the end. Very good hoppy brown ale and another beauty from 8 wired.

Pours a dark transparent brown with big initial off white head that slowly amounts to a healthy ring around the glass and spotty through the middle. Aroma is citrus, bready, caramel, and mildly fruity. Flavour is medium bitter citrus, bready, nutty, light sweetness and a dry finish.

Big frothy white head that sticks round really well. Beer has a red tinge to an over all dark deep brown clear appearance and nice medium carbonation. Aroma of bitter malt. Taste is much the same a bit of a let down something bitter, coffee like but more estringent. Was expecting a inviting and mellow beer, this is not. Bitter malt dominates this beer and unfortunatly not enjoying.

Very malty and full of caramel flavors yet it had a very satisfying bitter finish. The aroma was a little lacking for me but I did enjoy the full body and high carbonation.

500ml bottle. Pours an opaque deep chestnut, with a large off-white head, which lasts well and leaves good lacing. Dark chocolate, brown bread and very light hops make up the aroma. Floral and spice hops up front lead into a blend of milk chocolate and latte. Bitter roasted malt comes in at the finish. This is a reasonable, if not wondrous brown ale. I’m not sure my bottle was all that fresh, but nevertheless it was not all that impressive.

Pours very dark, looks more dark ruby than brown when held to the light beautiful creamy beige 1 finger head that soon settles a bit. First aroma when I knocked the top off the bottle was something dark and roasted or toasted, but first sniff at the glass was a beautiful soft pillow of sweet maltiness. 2nd sniff some floral hops poke through. 3rd sniff back to the dark roasty toasty. The taste and mouthfeel are quite a bit lighter than I was expecting. It doesn’t have the edible malt thickness of Tall Poppy or the hop extroversion of Hopwired. Somehow the (very nice) toasty flavours leave me craving for something a tad plumper in the body. It’s a very nice beer, not outstanding and may be better drunk with a meal to get the most out of it.

Cloudy, murky brown color with sediment... Light brown colored head and a sweet, malty, deliciously earthy nose. It’s light in the mouth, slightly disappointing, and yet a little different from what you’d expect from a brown ale... In a good way. This is a little too carbonated, though, and I think it negatively affects the flavor. Eh.
