COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
”Poor old misunderstood brown ale... This is perhaps the most versatile style of beer in the world, yet it is often frowned upon, but why? Is it because the word BROWN doesn’t cling right, perhaps it leads the mind towards less appetizing things? Is it because the colour BROWN is less snazzy than, say ’golden’?? Or is it because the duopoly of NZ brewing have driven the BROWN style into oblivion by claiming the style for their most unattractive products??? We’ll let you think about that while you sip this beer, either in the sun on the beach or in front of the barbie, with your afternoon steak and cheese pie, with your Sunday roast or just by itself because you are thirsty and deserve a treat! Chances are this is unlike any Brown Ale you have ever tasted, it is malty, hoppy and flavourful. Some might say it is Brown Ale re-defined, we’d say it’s REWIRED. Cheers!”

(50 cl bottle) Hazy, dark brown ale with a big, beige, foamy head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, overripe kiwi, citrus, some licorice and sandalwood. Taste is medium bitter and - luckily - not sweet. Lively carbonation, medium body, creamy texture, long and slightly astringent finish in which the citrus/lemon peel aroma stays longest. Delicious.

Appealing dark brown colouring, flavours of toffee and caramel finishing bitter across the palate, this Brown Ale could easily become a regular.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 500 ml bottle into a dimpled mug. The label lists the abv at 5.7% and has a nice description of the beer. Appearance: The body is dark brown, nearly black in color and when held up to light it appears to have good clarity. The head is tall thick and long lasting. This makes for some good lacing. Smell: It’s aroma is loaded with caramel and bready maltiness. Taste / Palate: The tongue is hit with a light heavyweight punch of caramel, toffee and sweet bready notes. It has a touch of nutty character as well. Hop bitterness is very light and really only picked up late in the finish. The feel is smooth and slightly sticky on the lips.

500ml bottle at home from drinkstore. Pours dark with reddish brown hints in light. Tan foam head. Earth, ash, nut, coffee, blackberry and slightly floral on the nose. Big malt base caramel, nuts, bread, only slight bitterness but mainly sweet syrup aftertaste. A little watery and light despite but malt presence. a good bit of fizz and its refreshing for what it is. Not bad.

500mL bottle, pours a deep dark amber-tinged brown with a medium tan head. Aroma toasted nuts and a little roast - almost seems a bit oxidized. Flavour brings out very pleasant toasted nuts, a touch of roast and a touch of dry caramel malt. Quite dry and nutty, while remaining quite flavourful for a brown ale. Very drinkable stuff, but ultimately very boring. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draught at Mikkeller Bar, Viktoriagade
Dark mahogany color, hazy, with small creamy head. The aroma of roasted malt is a bit dusty. Good body strength; roasted malt flavor, ashes, dark chocolate, dust; strong bitterness, with a lot of hop resins; too bitter and ashy in the end.
The roasted/burnt malt character is too evident.
