Saisons have been around for ages. Traditionally brewed by Belgian and French farmers to provide refreshment during harvest. I’m guessing that flavour wasn’t a main concern back then; the priority was to provide a beverage that was safe to drink, because water usually wasn’t. Never the less, over time they developed a beverage chrarissed by beer geeks of the modern world. The alcohol content was low, so the workers could consume enough to keep hydrated and still perform their job: To load the barn with enough barley for next years brewing season. I bet these hardworking, humble farmers never imagined, that centuries later, their style of brewing would inspire brewers from all over the world. As all our beers, this is a very modern, you might say new world, interpretation of this style. Based on the tradition we have used a French Saison yeast, which provides a plethora of funky, earthy, very "Belgian" flavours. From there we have upped the ante a fair bit by doubling the amount of malt, and thereby the alcohol, and loaded the kettle with punchy Nelson Sauvin hops. Unlike the original, this is not a beer meant to be drunk by the gallon. Moderation is the key for full enjoyment of all great beers.

With Z, pours a golden orange color with a foamy beige head. Nose is citrus with some yeasty floral notes. Taste is hoppy with nice funk, and spice. Finishes with barnyard funk, hops and the spicy yeasty notes. Quaff Score 7 / 10

Bottle. Pours a copper orange with a beige head and aroma of spices and lemon. Taste is spicy as well, with lemon, black pepper, yeast, citrus, and grapefruit notes leading to a spicy finish.

Bottle, shared at Ale House by Clayton. Nice farrmhouse yeast strain aroma. Huge Nelson hops. Nice clean malt. Great crisp malt backbone. Some licorice and funky elements. Would be interesting to see this aged. Also would be interesting to see them use Dupont yeast as well.

Tap. Very interesting beer, strong saison yeast flavour but hopped like an IPA. Really good balance between the two flavours. Definitely worth trying.

Aroma: yeast, pale malts, light bread, some straw, light grass. Appearance: just about clear gold, small, creamy, white head. Taste: light bitter and sweet. Palate: lively carbonation, after initial bitters, dry sweets coming up, some exotic fruits, very dry and bitter finish. Overall: fantastic Saison, well-balanced, nice complexity, very good tipple indeed. Bottle from Twenty One Wines, Brighton.

From pint bottle. Exploded out of the bottle when the cap was removed. Once settled, it pours a hazy yellow with a tight white head. Aromas of lemon, peach, white grapes and pepper with a little underlying funk. Taste starts out with white wine flavours with some kiwi fruit, lemon and lime before a pepper and lemon zest bitterness in the mid palate. Tropical fruit at the end before a lingering finish with a peppery aftertaste. Excellent stuff.

From Bottle Shop as part of Matt's 31st birthday haul. Hazy orange-tan pour. Big fluffy fizzy white head, streaky legs. Smells very yeasty, sour citrus (orange, lemon, lime), doughy bread, grass, barnyard, light spice. Taste is similar but fainter. Body is thin-to-medium, relatively watery but with a touch of slickness. Not bad! But hard to judge as this bottle is quite old.

Bottle from cellarbrations superstore in hami hill. Pouts hazy golden with s thin creamy head. Carbonation is active and body is medium. Aroma is a tropical fruit salad with moderate funk and spice. Taste is much the same. More tropical hops than yeast which appear as undertone. Little banana and little Orange. Good beer

Pours out a nice cloudy golden with huge frothy head. Aroma of hay, bread, mild spices and floral essences. Taste is pure saison, mild spiciness, wholegrain bread, black pepper and hay. Mild lingering flavors and a bit of dryness.
