Saisons have been around for ages. Traditionally brewed by Belgian and French farmers to provide refreshment during harvest. I’m guessing that flavour wasn’t a main concern back then; the priority was to provide a beverage that was safe to drink, because water usually wasn’t. Never the less, over time they developed a beverage chrarissed by beer geeks of the modern world. The alcohol content was low, so the workers could consume enough to keep hydrated and still perform their job: To load the barn with enough barley for next years brewing season. I bet these hardworking, humble farmers never imagined, that centuries later, their style of brewing would inspire brewers from all over the world. As all our beers, this is a very modern, you might say new world, interpretation of this style. Based on the tradition we have used a French Saison yeast, which provides a plethora of funky, earthy, very "Belgian" flavours. From there we have upped the ante a fair bit by doubling the amount of malt, and thereby the alcohol, and loaded the kettle with punchy Nelson Sauvin hops. Unlike the original, this is not a beer meant to be drunk by the gallon. Moderation is the key for full enjoyment of all great beers.

2014-02-21. Hazy orange body with a large foamy off white head. Aroma is mild, lightly musty, sort of pithy lemony citrus character is very mild. Flavour is pleasant, lightly musty and barnyardy character, moderate bitterness throughout lingers in the finish. Muted citrus. Average plus bodied palate, good amount of carbonation. Decent, quite enjoyable. Bottle via private LCBO order

(On tap) Straw coloured with good white head. Aroma is sour with barnyard hints (in a pleasant way). Light body with good carbonation. Flavour starts a little thin with some sour lemony notes. This is followed by earthy notes and a reasonable bitterness develops for the finish. Very drinkable.

Not much aromas. Nice maltiness and slight acidity. Hides the Nelson Sauvignon a bit too much for my taste :) very well balanced need with long pleasant complex aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Not so much aroma but good taste and very classic pale ale. A bit borring maybe but refreshing.

Cloudy golden straw colored pour. Big white head that does not want to go anywhere. Plenty of lacing as I drink it down. Nice aroma of grapefruit and other citrus goodies. Some old yeast aroma, musty almost. Slight malt note. Taste is typical of most saisons. Musty, earthy, yeasty with some malt and lemon in the back. Not bad.

Poured from a 500ml bottle. A beautiful golden colour with a good inch of solid head. Little lacing. First attempt at this style and impressed with a very interesting nose. Some citrus and sweetness as well as freshly baked brioche and cedar. Bitter with a heavy yeast flavour which dominates the hops, leaves a good mouthfeel and seems to be somewhat true to style from what I gather. Not sure it's my thing, but not discouraged by the experience.

Golden orange pour with a white head. Very earthy aromas, some funky notes. Flavor is very dry and earthy. Funky sharp yeast finish. Definitely not easy to drink. I’m just not a saison guy so take this rating with a grain of salt.
