COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saisons have been around for ages. Traditionally brewed by Belgian and French farmers to provide refreshment during harvest. I’m guessing that flavour wasn’t a main concern back then; the priority was to provide a beverage that was safe to drink, because water usually wasn’t. Never the less, over time they developed a beverage chrarissed by beer geeks of the modern world. The alcohol content was low, so the workers could consume enough to keep hydrated and still perform their job: To load the barn with enough barley for next years brewing season. I bet these hardworking, humble farmers never imagined, that centuries later, their style of brewing would inspire brewers from all over the world. As all our beers, this is a very modern, you might say new world, interpretation of this style. Based on the tradition we have used a French Saison yeast, which provides a plethora of funky, earthy, very "Belgian" flavours. From there we have upped the ante a fair bit by doubling the amount of malt, and thereby the alcohol, and loaded the kettle with punchy Nelson Sauvin hops. Unlike the original, this is not a beer meant to be drunk by the gallon. Moderation is the key for full enjoyment of all great beers.

Bottle. Pours clear pale golden color with a large soapy white head that slowly fades to a soapy film and sticky lacing. Aroma has good hop presence and a sweet funky malt and yeast. Taste is funky bitter hops and yeast with subtle sugars and pepper flavors. Palate is fizzy slick and drying.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours a rich, hazy amber orange with a thick white head. This bottle is overly carbonated, even for a Saison. Aroma is sweet with an inkling of funk and to be honest, I was expecting a lot more here. Taste is sweet and floral with a dry, bitter finish, revealing the alcohol content in spades. A good beer, but by no means 8 Wired’s best, nor the most memorable Saison.

Craft beer tasting dinner at the Brownstone, round two: Hazy yellow orange, big foamy white head settles and mostly lasts. Aroma is floral, fruity yeasty esters. Nice yeasty spicy saison taste, kicked up a notch with the punch of fruity sauvin hops, and the added malty sweetness. Soft carbonation, medium bodied, well hopped. Dry finish. NFL (Not For Lagerboys) Excellent pairing with a local lamb sausage on a fresh ciabatta bun with tzatziki and onion.

Cloudy reddish-gold body with a big whipped-cream head that slowly recedes to leave some great lacing. Stunning aroma of tropical fruit (pineapple, guava, lychee), peaches & cream, and a hint of peppery yeast. Flavour is equally impressive, with big sweet tropical fruit notes, orange blossom honey, fresh peach, and a long, dry, peppery, grassy finish. Outstanding!

Great big, whipped cream head, which kills the aroma until it dies down. Aroma is light, with white wine grape notes and a touch of sweetness. Taste has a smooth bitterness up front, with notes of white wine fruit, pepper, a touch of booze and a lingering bitterness in the finish.

FlacoAlto (3506) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - JUN 9, 2013
A careful pour into my Teku glass produces a four-finger thick, pale tan colored head that quickly tries to get out of the glass. The beer has light amber color to it and shows a clear, madly bubble laden, pale amber gold hue. The aroma has a vibrant tropical hop character to it; huge guava notes, some lychee, a grassy fruit character, huge floral peach notes with a tinge of tropical fruit funky / muskiness, and perhaps even a touch of pee character. There is a musty, white pepper character, and some other funky yeast notes here, but these clearly play a secondary role to the hop character.

Effervescent, quite dry, and light bodied, this mutes the bright fruit character from the nose, but this still is a hop dominated beer. There is a solid bitterness here, though it is certainly not an the level of an IPA. Floral, fruity hop notes become more noticeable after the bubbles get tamed a bit; flavors of guava, tropical fruit flower nectar, tart star fruit, sour nettle notes, ripe honey soaked cantaloupe (musk melon for sure), grassy / wild-weedy, and then peppery, piquant herbal character, that gets woody, but isn’t really like pine. The malt character is quite subtle and soft here; hay like, perhaps a hint of cracker character, and just a light grain.

The hop character is quite dirty and funky here, certainly this is accentuated by the yeast character, but a lot of it is the hops themselves.

Bottle: Poured a hazy golden hay color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and some great lacing. Aroma consists of fruity hops with nice floral hay undertones. Taste is a refreshing and complex mix of fruity hoppy notes with some dry floral notes with a solid addition of rustic malt with well balanced sweetness level. Body is full with limited filtration and great carbonation. Complex, refreshing and well balanced beer from a great brewer.

UPDATED: JUN 19, 2013 Bouteille de 50cl partagée avec slovaksniper. Batch 80 b.b. may 2014.

Pours pale golden, cloudy with white huge top, medium plus lacing. Aroma of citrusy hopping plus malt sweetness. Taste is good combination of sweet malt and above medium bitter, pleasant balance, some tones of honey but that could be special malts. Medium plus bodied, quite thick texture, long bitter average dry finish. Must re-rate.
