COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Now what is this? A smoked beer?? It really isn’t as crazy as it sounds. 250 years ago virtually all beers were smoked (it’s true, Google it!), but with the dawning of the industrial revolution most of the smoke lifted. However, in the German town of Bamberg the flame has quite literally been kept alive and to this day the town’s brewers produce world renowned beers brewed with their own special rauchmalz (beechwood smoked malt). We’ve taken our best porter recipe and added a good measure of that same Bamberg Rauchmalz. The smoke mingles beautifully with the rich, dark roasted chocolate flavours of the porter without being overpowering. Although it pairs extremely well with smoked seafood, barbeques, strong cheeses and hearty stews, its food friendliness isn’t limited to savouries; chocolate and caramel based deserts are great companions too! Trust us; it really isn’t as crazy as it sounds.

Can’t say that I was too impressed, having it either as a smoked or as a porter. Served too cold, and I had the impression that there was more bitter charred than smoked in my opinion. Deserves another taster.

A lovely smoked porter that people don’t drink. Soft and smooth with a palate that just lingers.

Aroma - nose is big and full of woody smoke ~ even a little of that smoked ham going on Appearance - beer explodes out the bottle setting up a 1" beige head. It fades into a halo Taste - much smokey wood notes, and some, and some spice as well, some chocolate hiding behind the smoke as well Palate - body is medium to full; texture is chewy and slick; carbonation is lively; finish is medium in length and full of harnessed roast

Lovely smoky nose, like a Bamberger. Lovely bacon and smoked salmon-like notes. Pretty black, great tan lacy head. Roasted malts, plus smoke, a bit of dark choco, caramel, and coffee. A bit too light, but great flavors and aromas.

Mollasses aroma with of course some smokiness. Smells a bit like coke and looks like it too with a fizzy head and dark brown body. Very thin and fizzy body, too thin. A bit of grassy bite comes through at the finish. Overall for a smoked beer, pretty good. To make a better beer overall it needs more body though.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Poured black with a tight tan head and excellent lacing. Big smoky aroma with notes of treacle and dark malt. Heavy carbonation, but pretty full mouth feel. Initial flavours of peat, burnt sugar and dark fruit. Finish was smoked wood chips, coffee, roast and cured meats. A meeting a great styles - I would have been quite disappointed by anything less than a great beer.

Smells and tastes a bit like the Rasputin. Aroma is smoky. Taste is big, smoke, sweet, hops bitterness. A bit thin palate. Not bad but Rasputin is better.
