Saved this for xmas day with our smoked ham. Looks great, nice chocolate and raosted malt aroma, wonderfully smooth with hint of smoke in there. A good one, more stock required.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark brown body with short but lasting light tan head. Nice chocolate on the aroma with hints of smoke. Pick up on the smoke better in the taste although it is not overdone, smooth, lasting chocolate, good body and good length.

While some may look at smoke beers with trepidation there is no need to fear this one. While there is a restrained smokiness that lingers on the palate afterwards, it is the chocolate dominates on the first smell. The chocolate, smoke, vanilla flavours balance nicely. The creamy mouthfeel makes this an enjoyable porter with still enough flavour to keep you interested.
Another triumph for 8 Wired!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pour at Warners at the Bay Beer Festival 2010. A very big beer, quite oily in the mouth. Aromas of bacon and smoke, while the flavours are much the same, with some sharp toffee malt.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Classy-looking and -feeling bottle, 11C. Black tinged with red at the edges, smallish tan head that never disappears. Aroma of roasted malt, hazelnut oil, chocolate, peat, a hint of prunes. Very smooth mouthfeel. Bigger smoke in the taste than the nose (until you go back and sniff again). Smoke, vanilla, gentle roast, stewed fruit. Some hop as well as roasted bitterness and vanilla at the end. Very good indeed.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours a very dark brownish ruby, clear when held up to light, with a short-lived, foamy tan head. Aroma is quite subdued and only mildly smokey but has stronger notes of cocoa, licorice, toffee and tar. There is more smokiness in the flavour, although it is still fairly restrained, as well as dark chocolate, vanilla, coffee, caramel, earth and wood. Thick, creamy mouthfeel with soft carbonation and a dry, bitter finish. Very nice smoked porter, very well put together with a good blend of classical and new styles. While not being too aggressive, in fact it’s almost elegant, it’s still eminently satisfying.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
A very deep black with a small lasting tan head.
Nose is a malty chocolate with a smokey edge to it. The smoke is more evident in the mouth, and then into the finish, harmonising with some roasty notes. Not overly carbonated with a smooth texture, and a medium body. Lovely finish with the smoke moving to roast to bitter. The smoke definitely isn’t overpowering as per the bottle description, however I’d like to see a bit more of it. Solid porter with that extra touch.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nose of bacon rind and molasses. Hints of raisin. Struggle a bit with the appearance - ’glass of tar’ was the descriptor the Snufflette used. Hint of a wispy head but thats all.
Surprisingly light bodied with some brown sugar sweetness and a flick of tobacco. Very nice porter with a little je nais sais quoi
