Now what is this? A smoked beer?? It really isnt as crazy as it sounds. 250 years ago virtually all beers were smoked (its true, Google it!), but with the dawning of the industrial revolution most of the smoke lifted. However, in the German town of Bamberg the flame has quite literally been kept alive and to this day the towns brewers produce world renowned beers brewed with their own special rauchmalz (beechwood smoked malt). Weve taken our best porter recipe and added a good measure of that same Bamberg Rauchmalz. The smoke mingles beautifully with the rich, dark roasted chocolate flavours of the porter without being overpowering. Although it pairs extremely well with smoked seafood, barbeques, strong cheeses and hearty stews, its food friendliness isnt limited to savouries; chocolate and caramel based deserts are great companions too! Trust us; it really isnt as crazy as it sounds.

22 oz bottle shared. Pours dark with tan coffee cream head. Roasted malt aroma with a little chocolate. This beer has the smoke flavor, which I love, but its not too overwhelming. Chocolate malt flavor with a smokey finish that sticks around. Good, unique beer. Really enjoyed this.

Bottle. Black and pored with a massive head that hung around for some time. Slightly bitter but nothing really going for it. Anticipated better than this.

500ml bottle from drinkstore. Pours dark black with tan foam head. Head reduces but stays. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, some smoke but its slight. Creamy chocolate, burnt malts, oily mouthfeel. Dry wood earthy bitterness on finish. Full flavour and lasting to the end. Dry mouth end. Really good beer.

Smell of smoke, chocolate. Black colour, dark brown head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, some licorice. Smokiness very neatly in background. Bitter. Soft carbon, creamy texture, full body.

Bottle: Muddy brown color with a monster of a fluffy brown head. Lots of carbonation and the pour is a waiting game. Nice smokey aroma, mostly campfire smoke. Little else comes through in the flavor, very light cocoa and oak to go with a heavy smoke presence. Its not harsh, but damn full of smoke.
