Explodes out of bottle with a five+ finger light tan head that fades very slowly leaving a good lace. Deep mahogany color, no highlights. Fierce carbonation and medium bodied. Smoky nose and flavor is a smooth smoky malt with a serious smoky aftertaste. Pricey at $10.99 for a 500ml bottle from Julio’s Liquors Westborough, Ma.

From Beerlicious iPhone app: typical smoke aroma with a hazy brown black appearance. Rocky brown head. Sour beer with some bittery notes. Creamy thick body that is very fizzy and has an abrupt finish.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 suprchunk (1059) - Heinsberg, GERMANY - MAY 14, 2012
Big tan head atop a black liquid. Slow to fall and leaves plenty of lacing. Big chocolate aroma. Vanilla and roasted malt. No smoke in the nose. Chocolate and pepper in the mouth. A slight smoke, but not much at all. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel with a slight carbonation sting. Pretty good.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 kermis (950) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - MAY 14, 2012
Bottle shared at Ølbutikken, Copenhagen. Pours a dark brown with a massive beige head. Nice smokey aroma with roasted notes and some dark fruit. Smoke is present in the flavour but seemed toned down giving a better balance. Nice beer but the carbonation is too high.

Thanks to the kind soul who shared this at the last Tampa Crew Tasting. Pours a cola brown color with a tan head. Nose is caramel, band aid, campfire, and chocolate. Flavor is the same with some campfire and band aid to mix with chocolate and caramel. Interesting blend of flavors. Medium in body and interesting overall.

A bit of a gusher. Huge roasty smokey nose with some herbally sweet notes. Taste is perfect smoke and a lactose like sweetness that is welcomed. Nice!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 ComradeK (525) - Blue Mountains, AUSTRALIA - APR 29, 2012
500ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with a huge beige head, which lasts very well and leaves behind good lacing. The aroma offers a fair amount of smoke, along with some woody notes and charcoal, backed by some more typically porter-like chocolate notes and perhaps a touch of herbal hops. Surprisingly strong, spicy hops are present to begin, but they give way to a drying, smoky flavour. This is tempered by smoother milk chocolate notes towards the finish. There is a lingering smoky aftertaste. I’m quite a fan of smoked beers, and this is a really nice example. The porter style, with its smooth, dark flavours, seems to work quite nicely with the drier smoke flavours, making this is a very fine brew indeed.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Japalo (341) - DENMARK - APR 29, 2012
Bottle. Black one finger offwhite foam. Smoked licorice. Very dry and some faint sweetness but a fresh brew. Medium body. For me better than the Bamberg rauchbier.
