The beer you hold in your hands is the result of years of practise and refinement. I have brewed it every year since I started homebrewing, and it was one of the first beers I ever brewed. In fact before the mere thought of 8 Wired was conceived. I always knew that one day I would brew this beer commercially. Every year the Sultan has been different, but it is always Belgian inspired, of course with a large dose of sultanas. This bottle contains the fifth version of the Sultan. I finally decided to base it on a Belgian style Quadrupel. The sultanas are more present than before, and it is brewed with a hefty dose of pilsner malt, Belgian specialty malts, dark candy sugar and a funky yeast strain. Experience and enjoy it now, or mature it for years to come. I can’t personally guarantee it, but I bet that it will get better with time. Soren Eriksen Brewer

Very darky ruby amber, smells of sultanas and roasted oats and a hit of a funky yeast. Tastes like sultanas and thick hops, yeast a little bitte toward the end. Had a few of these, was best with richly roasted ribs

500ml bottle in a Trappist glass. Pours copper/amber with a lacy, cream-colored head. Aroma of spicy yeast, caramel malts, floral hops, and some dark fruits. Flavor the same with some alcohol on the finish. Smooth texture. A decent quad but not the best.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with off white ring head. Nose/taste of malt, grape skin, caramel, dark fruit and light spice. Body is on the lighter side of the spectrum for the style. Slight alcohol soaked fruit finish.

Great beer from NZ. Dark, dried fruits in the aroma, bitter and sweet at the same time tastewise.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with white head. Raisin, grapes, malty aromas. Very raisin flavored. Not my favorite quad.

500ml bottle. Dark fruity syrupy molasses nose. Smooth, light carbonation. Bigger body. Dry texture. Nice spicy sweet light bitter taste. Aroma of mediterranean spice, candi sugar, light dark fruit (raisin, fig). Mildly hazy darker red color. Good thin tan head. For me, this is just alright, as far as the quads I’ve tried go. Unlike most Belgian ales, this doesn’t get any better as it sits. Price is not justified.

Low carbonation, fat and oily mouthfeel. Flavour has caramel, chocolate, plums, raisins. Quite bitter with some spicy dryness. Mild liquorice, vinious, soft ashy dry. Nice.

Bottle at Henrik, Bergen. Has a hazy dark amber colour with a small off-white head. The aroma is wonderful with caramel, sweet berries, cocoa, leather, wood, spices and brown sugar. The flavour is even more sweet with sweet berries, leather, wood and caramelized sugar. Has a rich and slick mouthfeel, and a light bitterness. A fantastic and well-balanced ale.
