The beer you hold in your hands is the result of years of practise and refinement. I have brewed it every year since I started homebrewing, and it was one of the first beers I ever brewed. In fact before the mere thought of 8 Wired was conceived. I always knew that one day I would brew this beer commercially. Every year the Sultan has been different, but it is always Belgian inspired, of course with a large dose of sultanas. This bottle contains the fifth version of the Sultan. I finally decided to base it on a Belgian style Quadrupel. The sultanas are more present than before, and it is brewed with a hefty dose of pilsner malt, Belgian specialty malts, dark candy sugar and a funky yeast strain. Experience and enjoy it now, or mature it for years to come. I can’t personally guarantee it, but I bet that it will get better with time. Soren Eriksen Brewer

Eodt øl som bare blir bedre og bedre for hver munnfull. En god smak og lukt opplevelse. Bør prøves.

500ml bottle at home. Pours a deep purple brown with a small head that settles into thick lace. Aroma of sultanas is the first thing you smell, but given a second more discerning sniff and you get figs, vanilla, caramel, and herbal yeast. Tate is a little underwhelming although the sweetness of the Belgian malts and sultanas is nice. There’s a clingy bitterness that doesn’t seem at home in this brew. There is definitely a full-body to the beer but it needs a less astringent finish.

500 ml bottle poured a cloudy brown with a lingfering ring of amber foam. Aromas of dates, figs, sultanas , toffee and yeast. Palate was medium to full bodied and smooth. Flavors of toffee, yeast, plums and sultanas with a smooth lingering fruity finish.

Bottle from Muckey’s. Pours out a very dark purple. Off white head that settles to a thick lace. Aroma is dark and sweet like prune juice. Flavor is rich. Thick and chewy. Unfortunately, a little too much candi sugar for me. Could be better balanced.

Deep ruby pour, with a small beige head. Sweet smell of candysugar and malts. The taste is also sweet indeed, with a funky aftertaste. Alcohol very well hidden. Superb.

Djupt röd/brun i färgen, litet offwhite skum. Doftar sockersöt karamellmalt, russin, gräs alkohol. Smakar söt karamell, russin, torkad frukt, dadlar, fikon, gräs, alkoholig väldigt torr avslutning.

Deep red - brown beer, very hazy. Good sized pale tan head. Softish palate, dry. Fine carbonation. Sweet and slightly spicy. Nice rich fruit cake in the undertone. Lactose sweetness. A little tart fruit as well. Dry finish. Tasty quad if a bit dry.

Bottle. Opaque and very dark brown. The head is thin but decently muscular. The aroma is like raisin wine. This drinks with a rich dark fruit body -- prune, raisin, plum. Delish. (#3947, 1/25/2013)

A big thank you to Bernard! Very hard to find, but thankfully the Wheatsheaf had a few left! The bottles had some age on their side which meant the beer was just lovely an juicy with full body and balance. It is not your typical quad but its is delightful and an unusual take on the theme. The taste was gorgeous and the ETOH was well hidden. Really pleased to finally get to try this great beer.
