The beer you hold in your hands is the result of years of practise and refinement. I have brewed it every year since I started homebrewing, and it was one of the first beers I ever brewed. In fact before the mere thought of 8 Wired was conceived. I always knew that one day I would brew this beer commercially. Every year the Sultan has been different, but it is always Belgian inspired, of course with a large dose of sultanas. This bottle contains the fifth version of the Sultan. I finally decided to base it on a Belgian style Quadrupel. The sultanas are more present than before, and it is brewed with a hefty dose of pilsner malt, Belgian specialty malts, dark candy sugar and a funky yeast strain. Experience and enjoy it now, or mature it for years to come. I canít personally guarantee it, but I bet that it will get better with time. Soren Eriksen Brewer

Bottle. Pours amber with a medium off white head. The aroma is dark fruity and somewhat yeasty with notes of sweet caramel. The flavour is sweet caramel, sweet malt, dark fruit and ligth yeast. Bit too sweet and sugary overall. Creamy palate.

Bottle 500ml from Dispensary Enoteca. Delicious; malty treat, with nice bitter notes. Aromas of caramel, nuts, toffee, cherries, with hints of chocolate. liquorice, and alcohol. Taste is sweet, with bitter notes, and very long length. Palate is syrupy, and full bodied. Amber, with a frothy head.

500ml bottle. Dark reddish amber to brown colour with small quickly fading off-white head. Aroma has dried dark fruit, dark berries, raisin, caramel, some alcohol. Taste is sweet, dark fruity, slightly alcoholic. I miss notes referable to the funky yeast. Lacks complexity overall I suspect the candy sugar is accountable for.

500ml Bottle: Aroma of malt, raisin, fruit, dark ripe fruit, figs, Belgian yeast, and caramel. Poured deep amber/copper/brown in color with a small, off-white head that diminished quickly, but lasted throughout around the edges. Cloudy. Sparkling. Full of tiny particles throughout. Flavor is medium to heavily sweet. Tastes of malt, dark ripe fruit, caramel, Belgian yeast, candi-sugar, toasted caramel, hops, and a hint of roasting. Medium body. Viscous, then dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt, candi-sugar, toasted caramel, hop, Belgian yeast finish is dry. 10%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

My rating #2400! This was supposed to be something VERY special but i wanted to share with my two daughters so itíll have to wait. 16.9 oz bottle. Chestnut brown with clear edges and a ring of bubbles. Nose is caramel, dates, cinnamon and brandy. Body a bit on the heavy side for a quad, lightened by zesty carb. Taste is honey, graham crackers, fig and citrus peel. Finishes bitter and earthy.

500 ml bottle @ Patricks. Reddish amber body with a decent beige head. Aroma has caramel malt, dry fruit, berries, raisins and warming alcohol. Flavor is sweet malty, fruity, raisins, warming alcohol and hint of wood. Quite sweet, but feels balanced somehow. Full body. I canít really decide if this beer is complex or not, but the taste crows for each mouthful.

Pours an amber/red color. Big malty sweetness on the nose. And that same thing follows into the flavor but at the back, there is a tinny note that disrupts the proceedings.

Shared 500 ml bottle at Cardinal. Pours a clear deep amber-orange body with a small creamy, light brown head. Wood and berries, spices, butterscotch, fruity notes on the nose bringing cherished memories of fresh saisons to mind. Full body. Alcohol, oyster and herb notes, sweet and acidic flavors. Fruity and wooden. Good stuff!

Shared bottle @ Cardinal. This is a great ale! And the 10% ABV is well masked. Nice aromas of dried fruits (the sultan raisins) and the typical nice floral aroma of belgian yeasts. Again I canít describe it as itís to complex for a 1íst level beer geek.
