COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The beer you hold in your hands is the result of years of practise and refinement. I have brewed it every year since I started homebrewing, and it was one of the first beers I ever brewed. In fact before the mere thought of 8 Wired was conceived. I always knew that one day I would brew this beer commercially. Every year the Sultan has been different, but it is always Belgian inspired, of course with a large dose of sultanas. This bottle contains the fifth version of the Sultan. I finally decided to base it on a Belgian style Quadrupel. The sultanas are more present than before, and it is brewed with a hefty dose of pilsner malt, Belgian specialty malts, dark candy sugar and a funky yeast strain. Experience and enjoy it now, or mature it for years to come. I can’t personally guarantee it, but I bet that it will get better with time. Soren Eriksen Brewer

Shared 500 ml bottle at Cardinal. Pours a clear deep amber-orange body with a small creamy, light brown head. Wood and berries, spices, butterscotch, fruity notes on the nose bringing cherished memories of fresh saisons to mind. Full body. Alcohol, oyster and herb notes, sweet and acidic flavors. Fruity and wooden. Good stuff!

From a 50 cl bottle at home in Skövde. Brown beer with a small offwhite head. Dried sweet fruits an d a bit tar/licorice aroma and flavour. A bit metallic notes.

Shared bottle @ Cardinal. This is a great ale! And the 10% ABV is well masked. Nice aromas of dried fruits (the sultan raisins) and the typical nice floral aroma of belgian yeasts. Again I can’t describe it as it’s to complex for a 1’st level beer geek.

Shared bottle at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours dark amber with a small white head. Aroma of sweet berries and malts. Taste is sweet berries and malts, some alcohol and belgian yeast, easy to forget.

Flöska heima viđ hús út á kvöldi. Deep dark brown colour with a nice beige creamish like head. Quite sweet well toasted malt and caramel dominates the aroma, along comes chocolate and dark fruit, vinious like too. Good filling mouthfeel. The flavour is sweet with dark malts and roasty like caramel with dark fruit, chocolate, spice and alcohol. Sweet dark malty caramel fruit finish. Vćlsmakkandi bjór!

500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10.0%. Cloudy dark brown colour, moderate but lasting off-white head. Moderate aroma of sultanas, oaked fortified wine, rum-raisin and liqueur-filled chocolates. The flavour is oaky / woody with notes of sultanas / raisins and other dark dried fruits, but not nearly as sweet as I feared. The hops are very moderate. Nice and drinkable, but has not quite the complexity of best Belgian ales in the abt / quadrupel style. Still well worth sampling.

A New Zealand quad - looking forward to this one . Pours deep ruby redwith a full beige head . Aroma is jumping out of the glass - rich dark dried fruits , caramels , malts , plums . Sweet taste again of dark fruits and caramelised sugar. Vinous oily body . Alcohol burn comes through. A good attempt at a quad but lacking complexity and balance compared to the best Belgian examples

Bottle from Star Grocery, Berkeley. Pours mahogany with a disappearing beige head and an enticing plum and candi sugar aroma. There is a fruity dark malt and raisin flavor with a grape finish. Not a standard quad, but pretty tasty.

Bottle. Dark red pour with small beige head. Aroma is sweet with caramel and dried fruit and a hint of licorice. Taste is sweet and alcoholic with raisins, plum, slight overripe fruit, yeast, nut and rye-tasting caramel. Nice oily texture, ends malty/fruity and slightly warming for quite some time.

Pours a reddish brown color with a light brown head. I found out they use wine grapes in their flavoring. And I can taste it. Okay quad.
