Like tackling the Knockmeal Downs Mountains in a blizzard, this beer is not for wimps. This robust malt-driven ale balances dark malts with some old world bitter hops. It won’t weigh you down like a stout and offers a rich chocolate aroma with a burst of espresso. Perfect for a cooler evening: year round in Ireland.

Bottle shared with northropfrye in Dingle. Dark and bacony. I like the aroma, and appearance, but the the bacony taste didn’t do it for me necessarily.

The head is ok, the body black. It smells roasty, darkmalty, intensive. The taste is roasty, darkmalty, intensive coffee, aromatic, bit bitter-coffee. Aftertaste is more coffee-bitter-hoppy, and a bit chocolate. Good 12/12/12/11/12/12

Pours a deep black with ruby highlights and a very low, dense tan head to sit atop the brew. Aroma has a lot of burnt notes to it with a lot of coffee, light chocolate, very slight peat and a smooth fresh sack graininess at the very end. Flavor starts off with a light chocolate but is quickly overtaken by a light bitter coffee presence and followed up by some smooth grainy presence with just a touch of earthy hops and light smoke from the heavy roasted malts. Body is thin and lightly carbonated as a porter should be. Overall stylistically spot on for a porter. A pretty tasty beer for just a 5% brew.

Bottle at parents house, sourced from the Abbots Ale House Store in Cork by the old man - many thanks, 26/01/13. Mid black with a thin tan head that clears to the edge and leaves a swirl of a film. Nose carries dark malt, touch of chocolate, molasses, light sour fruit tones, light soapy notes. Taste comprises dark malts, chocolate, dark fruits, plummy, dates, molasses, leather, tar, light mineral tones, hint of coffee. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry finish. Ok porter, nice to see the Irish micro’s shining through more in recent years!

UPDATED: JUL 21, 2013 Bottled 0,33L. Dark brown color, much fraungh, inscrutable with an elegant nut head of medium resistance. Alcoholic and roasty aroma, decided malty notes, singed cereals and wood. Mighty alcoholic impact, solid, intense and decided roast and burned malty, little cooffè rumors, extend and protracted bitter final,

This brew pours a dark brownish-black color with a medium khaki head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and touches of hops. Light body with a roast character and flavors of chocolate malt and coffee. The finish is sweet with a roasty malt aftertaste. Decent overall.
