2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
330ml bottle. Clear amber colour with small, frothy, diminishing, minimally lacing, white head. Oriental, peppery spicy herbal aroma, hints of thyme, oregano, coriander, cumin, sage, chamomile overtones. Taste has initially similar notes in lower intensity, later more bitter and minimally soapy. Well rounded spicy combination that is nice to smell; and one I’d rather prefer to eat than to drink.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
330ml bottle bought at Gorgeous Wine & Cigar in Yuen Long.
Clear amber colour; Three-quarter finger head and off-white foam which last for about 30 seconds; Small sticky lacing with fizzy carbonation;
Fragrant aroma of mint, black peppercorn, thyme, spices, light malt and dough; Near zero sweet taste of very light malt, with peppercorn, thyme, sumac, strong Middle Eastern food spices, and faint citrus; Mid to light body, thin and slightly slick palate; Taste profile is very light and thin pale ale loaded with pretty strong, fragrant and tasty Middle Eastern food spices common in Hammus, Baba Ganoush, Falafel, etc. Its smell and taste are strong enough to suppress the remaining citrus / grass hop taste, but not to point of annoying; Hoppiness is very faint citrus nose, trace of citrus taste and bitterness. Finish is a mix of sumac, thymes and notes of grass; Pretty dry after taste, very easy to mouth.
Comments: A very unique brew, featuring Middle Eastern spice nose and taste above everything else. No grapefruity citrus or strong hops can be found, but a strong yet quite pleasing Mid-East spice vibe for easy afternoon enjoyment. Very interesting to try, enjoyable, but not yet great.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Pours clear light orange/amber with small white head. Clear aroma of raw malt, bread and yeast with notes of hops. Sweetish, grainy flavour with notes of hops, spices and an eerie metallic finish. Never had a Lebanese Pale Ale before, so this one is interesting, but not particularly exciting.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
11.2 oz bottle into a pint glass. Lebanese craft beer, how could I refuse this?
A: Pours a clear golden-copper color. Not much head is to be found, it’s about one fingers high, shaded white, and not very impressive looking even before it fades quickly. Some lacing is left on the glass, at least.
S: It’s hard not to be intrigued by the aroma. Cinnamon, sage, coriander, green tea, chamomile, and mint all hit the nose in a big way. Not much of a malt backbone or hop presence here - this one seems designed to showcase the various spices, and it’s a success in that regard.
T: Not as interesting as the nose, likely due to the fact that all the spices seemingly blend with one another. However, there’s still enough to like here, such as the thyme/sage notes on the opening and the minty finishing kick. I think this would be better if the maltiness or hop profile was beefed up slightly; flavor-wise, the spice character (though showcased quite well) needs a bit more malt/hops to really shine.
M: This is really light-feeling and crisp. Not the driest brew in the world - which is understandable - but I’m still amazed at how drinkable it is. It goes down superbly, without the aid of strong carbonation to do so.
O: One of the strangest brews I’ve had in a while. I’d call it a partial success; it shows off the spices well, but the base beer isn’t quite interesting enough to keep up. Still, I’d much rather drink this over the legions of generic English pale ales on the market right now.
