This beer is based on Sweet Stout. Our version has 7.5% ABV, with added cold water espresso coffee beans, The result is a discreet and delicate coffee aroma blended in with the roasted aromas from dark malts and other spicy aromas traditionally associated with Stouts. 330ml brown bottle. Deep brown pour. Head is light brown, creamy and sticks to the surface of the beer. Excellent lace. Coffee, chcoolate and trace alcohol in the aroma. Flavour has chocolate and strong black coffee. Long finish has big roasty notes. Dry and moderately bitter. Medium body, smooth and creamy in the mouth. A pleasing stout.

Tap at Jimmy’s. Definite coffee hit in the aroma, and I can swear I smell the cardamom too, though it may just be suggestion. Spunky, spicy, raw flavor, some carbonic acid. Smooth and sessionable. I dig it.

Pours black with a small head. Nose shows fresh coffee, roasted barley and cardamon. A faint cardboard notes shows through. More cardamon as a flavour, the coffee is much less noticeable however. Seems to fall short quickly. Body feels watery.

My favorite of the 961 collection. It pours a rich dark brown color and smells like coffee and coffee, even though there is no chocolate or coffee in it. It smells much better than it tastes but it does taste awesome. An amazing companion to rich tasting foods. Overall, veeery impressive.

330ml bottle pours black in color with a 3 finger light brown head that retains well and leaves some nice thin lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasted malts and coffee with spices and mild herbal hops. Taste is roasted malt and coffee bitterness with enough malty sweetness to balance things out. Medium bodied with enough carbonation to leave a tingle on the palate. This brew was well beyond my expectations and was very enjoyable.

Powertrip (999) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 18, 2011
Single bottle purchased from Enoteca Wine & Spirits in Calgary, AB on 05/07/2011. Colour: Black with tanned head. Once again, this 961 product produced enormous head, althought not when pouring, but instead it started to rise about a minute after and then for 10 minutes! Nose: Dirt, charred wood, pipe tobacco, middle east spices, burnt caramel. Taste: Light sweet, medium sour, light bitter. A distinct sour presence here and an overwhelming dose of burnt toast. Bad mouth feel, tonnes of foaming. Pleasing aroma then fail....

Bottle. Black body with a frothy, beige head. Roasted malts aroma. Notes of espresso, chocolate, ash. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Taste of burnt malts, coffee. Dry finish and a bit tangy.

Bottled. A black beer with a huge brown head. The aroma has notes of coffee and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of coffee and roasted malt, leading to a dry roasted finish. The body is a bit light.

Bottle. Hearty, very dark pour with a dense brown head. Aroma of coffee and subtle aniseed. Flavours of dark roast coffee bean, quite rich actually, some bitter chocolate, notes of char and licorice. Not as sweet as I expected, and certainly better than I expected. Quite well done actually.
