Its like licking a damn ashtray. Seriously. Not sure how anyone could call this a beer.

My favorite of the 961 collection. It pours a rich dark brown color and smells like coffee and coffee, even though there is no chocolate or coffee in it. It smells much better than it tastes but it does taste awesome. An amazing companion to rich tasting foods. Overall, veeery impressive.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 reebtogi (2159) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 2, 2012
330ml bottle pours black in color with a 3 finger light brown head that retains well and leaves some nice thin lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasted malts and coffee with spices and mild herbal hops. Taste is roasted malt and coffee bitterness with enough malty sweetness to balance things out. Medium bodied with enough carbonation to leave a tingle on the palate. This brew was well beyond my expectations and was very enjoyable.
2.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 9/20 Powertrip (841) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 18, 2011
Single bottle purchased from Enoteca Wine & Spirits in Calgary, AB on 05/07/2011. Colour: Black with tanned head. Once again, this 961 product produced enormous head, althought not when pouring, but instead it started to rise about a minute after and then for 10 minutes! Nose: Dirt, charred wood, pipe tobacco, middle east spices, burnt caramel. Taste: Light sweet, medium sour, light bitter. A distinct sour presence here and an overwhelming dose of burnt toast. Bad mouth feel, tonnes of foaming. Pleasing aroma then fail....

Bottle. Hearty, very dark pour with a dense brown head. Aroma of coffee and subtle aniseed. Flavours of dark roast coffee bean, quite rich actually, some bitter chocolate, notes of char and licorice. Not as sweet as I expected, and certainly better than I expected. Quite well done actually.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 drowland (3879) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - JUL 7, 2010
6/26/10. Sampled at the Tally Tasting 2010 - Lebanon tick, thanks to fata2683! Light creamy coffee aroma and the same on the taste but with some sort of funky weirdness that I can’t even identify.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 hopscotch (7522) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JUN 28, 2010
Bottle… Tally Tasting ‘10… Pours black with a mid-sized, creamy, beige head. Great retention. The aroma offers mocha and toasted nuts – cashews, pistachios and almonds – with a hint of caramel. Medium-bodied with stinging carbonation. The flavor is thin, but still tasty – acrid, burnt, bitter espresso notes. Scorched, coarse, tangy, drying finish. Bottle courtesy of fata2683!
