JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium May 5, 2005 Deep golden beer; small whitish head. Slightly smoked (pale) malts nose, bit grassy and drains water. Malt, malt cookies and grain. Warming up, a peanuts taste arrives. Rather sweet overall. A bit watery. The isles have much wind and good barley, but a lot of rain too, it seems. It’s not the most exclusive beer in the world, no doubt - but surely one of the most elusive. not any longer to me - thanks to a great Lubière! MartinT (5030), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 9, 2005 Updated: Aug 16, 2009The Lure: On a filtered bronze-tinted gold lingers a sumptuous head. A freshly malted cereal aroma mingles with subdued grassy hops and a light lactic drop.
The Festivities: Soft carbonation leaves way to a hoppy hay and a fast-fading finish. A very cleanly-brewed lager offering a nice malt husk crispness and a wooden hoppy dryness. Reaching for the macro crowd, its familiarity and humility could sway the Gaspésiens and Madelinots to the micro world with proper marketing. Addendum: if only we could get fresh bottles faster in Montreal. We are often stuck with 6-month old bottles, or even older...
Transcendence: Far out in the country, simplicity is the root of pride. Lubiere (4464), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Jan 2, 2006 Golden lager with a good white head.. Faint sulfur notes over an otherwise crisp malt aroma. Good crisp malt with good clean german hops. Salty notes. Rich bodied for a lager. Quite nice. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA Jun 12, 2005 341 ml bottle purchased at Metro Joanette in May. Light gold-amber clear body with smallish quick-decaying head...grainy-sweet nose exhibits touches of rosemary and rustic honey, some sharp dry hoppiness...body a bit bready, nice light pale malts working with the moderate hoppiness, fairly sweet towards the back, mellow finish. Quite pleasant. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Apr 22, 2005 Lightly fruity, grainy malt aroma with some herbal hop notes is fresh and appealing. Golden blonde body with excellent clarity is topped by a generous and lasting, dense, fine-bubbled, white head that leaves some patchy lacing. Cereal-like, grainy malt flavour offers up some lightly fruity notes and an soft herbal hop flavour with gentle finishing bitterness. Light body is refreshing with moderate carbonation and crisp texture. While it’s no Corne de Brume, it’s well done for what it is. Lager glass, fridge temp. Bottle (Metro Joanette, Apr. 2005). Drinkable lager, medium gold colour. Passable, with some sea-salt, hops, malt, graininess in texture. Overall sweet, drying finish. Radek Kliber (3926), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada Aug 24, 2005 Aroma full of sweet juicy malts, faint hop character in background. Medium bodied lager with rather decent malt set. Long lasting gentle bitter aftertaste. Nice balanced beer . Refreshing and clean. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Jul 29, 2005 Updated: Aug 26, 2005Bottle - shared with blankboy, GregClow, jerc at tupalev’s domicile - provided by jerc. Poured a clear, slightly amber gold with a large frothy head and fair lacing. Aroma was damp grain, sour corn mash, cardboard and a bit of sweet banana for weirdness. Not much flavour at all - some weak-donkey malt, wet grains, with dead funereal flowers providing the hops, such as they were. Weak and flat mouthfeel, no aftertaste. Pretty much a big ol’ glass of nothing. 9/20 because I can’t think of anything nasty about it.
