3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Glouglouburp (4772) - Montreal, - DEC 18, 2011
In short: A fruity light-color beer of some kind. Original and good
How: Tap at Chambly Beer Festival 2011
The look: Cloudy peach-orange body topped by a some big beige bubbles acting as a head
In long: Nose is pleasantly fruity with a mix of all kinds of fruits and also scented woody notes. Taste starts with some kind of fruit salad with flowers and then the beer turns rather woody dry and with a mild bitterness. Soft carbonation. Most barrel-aged IPAs I’ve had just turn out into a muted lame IPA. But this beer turned into something totally different, totally unrelated to an IPA, impossible to tell the base beer was an IPA. With the wine barrel aging it became simply an original fruity beer of some kind and I really enjoyed it. A nice surprise because to find an original creation like this at the Chambly beer festival. The Chambly beer festival is an outdoor family friendly event, this is not a beer-geek festival, some dude asked me what I was writing in my notepad while drinking my beer, I didn’t want to sound too weird so I told him I was writing a ransom letter in case I decided to kidnap a children later on during the day.
