$7.30 for 341mL at Depanneur Peluso and SAQ near Rockland Center. First bottle was number 424 of 1500 bottles. I don’t recall for the second bottle. AROMA: A dominant Lambic type nose, with characters of whites and IPAs. Sweet and sour, zesty, citrus, some floral character. Refreshing. APPEARANCE: Heady off-white, but quickly dispersing. Slight cloudyness. Amber. TASTE: Lingering hops dominating a sour undertone. Taste gets a little muddled into a hand-sanitizer like flavor peak. PALATE: Medium body, long hops. I can appreciate a bizarre brew, and this is a bizarre brew. A beer to drink once or twice. The price and limited edition admit to this with modesty. You don’t come across a wild yeast/IPA hybrid everyday - which is a good thing - but it doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate it if you meet such a monster.

341 ml bottle. Pours an orange amber, filled with loads of sediments. Smells like wood and spices. Tastes like wine or light port wine, fruity, somewhat spicy. Very woody. Slight bitter finish. Humidity seems to linger on. Medium-bodied. Quite good, very well balanced.

Pours with a dark reddish hue and a creamy reddish white top. Aroma is funky, fruity and a little oak. Taste starts with a lambic cherry, then the funk and the acidic pucker comes in. It ends with a small dry oak finish. Interesting beer.

Bouteille 341 ml. 7.1%. Surprenant.

341 ml bottle purchased at Peluso (Montreal) on December 3, 2011, bottle # 1096 out of 1500. Honey orange, medium head. Aromas of citrus acidic and herbs, notes of barley sugar. Taste of malted wheat with lots of citrus acid, notes of honey and herbs, herbal aftertaste slightly bitter. Pretty good saison, but at $8 for a 12 oz, bit over price!

Thanks to Patrick in Montreal for an IP trade on this one. Bottle No.609/1500 drank in Mar ’12. Pours a hazy golden/amber colour with a small white head. A lambic/sour aroma on the nose with some hops, earthy notes and wood. You can pick out the wheat in the taste along with some dried fruit sweetness, a little bitterness and hops, a blade of grass and a little wood. In respect to the barrel aging on this saison, when compared to other saisons, I think this could be what has given this beer the dried fruit/sweet aspect that it contains. Medium bodied and well balanced, medium to low level of carbonation, just right for this stlye and gives for a slightly bitter-citrus finish. Overall a decent saison with a little more body and fruitiness than most!

(Rating #4109)

In short: A sharp oaky/tannic and slightly acidic fruity Belgian amber ale of some kind. Good
How: Bottle 341ml, #374/1500. Consumed 3 months after the beer release
The look: Almost clear amber body topped by a medium off-white head
In long: Nose is tannic, moderately acidic, slightly woody, notes of teashop, some citrusy hops. Taste of acidic oranges, oak tannins, lemon zest, apple skin, some of the can’t-pronounce exotic teas I buy at work, lollipops, more… This is a beer that is a bit here and there but doesn’t feel too chaotic, it certainly isn’t boring. Classified as a Saison… why not? No style is perfectly right for a beer like this. An original and pretty decent beer even if overpriced, which gives me a great business idea: 1) Buy a local beer store. 2) Move said beer store to available location in front of my house. 3) Sell beer to myself. 4) Watch money pour in.
