In short: A very bitter blonde IPA. Nice beer for hopheads
How: Bottle 341ml. Consumed fresh about two weeks after the beer release
The look: Clear blonde body topped by a small white head
In long: Nose of medium intensity is bright and sharp and showcases lemony/citric hops with a resinous undertones and some tropical fruits. Taste has pleasant bready malts reminiscent of a fresh baguette. But mostly this beer is about the bitter hops with flavors of citrus fruits, tropical fruits, lemon and grass. Lemony acidity from start to finish with some resinous notes. I’m not all that familiar with the Falconer hops and even less with the Zythos so all I can say is that this beer smells and taste razor sharp with a higher-than-usual acidity level. There was a little alcohol bite which is surprising considering it is only a 6.3% beer. Just like the Cuvée Houblonnée I, this is a beer for hopheads only, a group to which I belong. I’m not gonna complain about a beer being so hop-forward because there too few hop-bombs in Quebec, I don’t know the exact number but I can probably count on one hand half of the total number of fingers I have.

Bouteille 341ml.

bottle shared with seb A: citrusy, pinapple, piny App: clear light yellow lasting white head with excellent lacing. t/p : light body medium long bitter finish and average carbonation. O: Like that blend of hops. This Ipa offer a different bouquet then the one we’re used to.

A beautiful lasting white tower settles atop the relatively pale golden clearish haziness. A rather rough nose where bursting resins and raw albeit not perfumey tropical fruits are greeted by a phenolic compound that could be more than disagreeable in a beer that focused less intenseively on hops. The first sip feels kinda round for what it tastes like, but the smashing bitterness that ramps along the closure is certainly the only memory you can preserve for a while, leaving a long, coating aftertaste of sticky resins. Underneath, the malt base is not overloaded with crystal malts, but still feels fairly grainy and a bit rough, especially with the alcohol also being so forward for a 6.3% ale. I appreciate the effort to showcase unusual hop varietals and focus on hops rather than malts, something that many IPA from Quebec do not accept, but the balance here is not too terrible. Those rare hop varietals just don’t smell as good as more common examples and the gearing is, to my tastes, leaning overly towards bitterness as opposed to aromas. Looking forward to the rest of the series nevertheless, in cse hops I appreciate more are used, but at this price tag of almost 5$ per 12oz, I’m not holding my breath.

pours clear golden with a very nice tall white head, excellent retention and lacing. tropicalness, sweet vanilla-esque, cherries, wild funkiness - zythos? falconer’s? nice pale malts. soft carbonation, light body - silky though. med to long grapefruity finish. hint of sweetness, honey.

Bouteille de 341ml. Cadeau de Patrick. 4 piastres.
