Wow who knew Canada makes the best Scotch Ale, sorry Scotland. This was one pleasant treat on a nice fall type day. Poured a deep clear red/brown with a great looking very light tan creamy head that left some great lacing on my Ommegang chalice. Complex sweet aroma of dark fruit, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, raisin bread, slight raosted malt and only a touch of alcohol.....near perfection. Mouthfeel is awesome, smooth and creamy with light carbonation and just a slight alcohol warming on the back of your throat. Flavor of chocolate, raisin, brown sugar, dark fruit and a slight touch of alcohol. Reminds me of a smooth dark fruit bourbon, if such a creature existed. Without a doubt the best Scotch Ale I have ever had. Guerde (700), Welcome, Minnesota, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 1, 2007 (bottle, thanks Footbalm) Pours dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma is heavy on molasses, brown sugar, and also a smell of caramel corn with some banana. Very smooth malty taste with no bitterness and an excellent mouthfeel. JK (2952), Richfield, Minnesota, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Sep 1, 2007 From Muzzlehatch, thank you. Red in color and lightly carbonated. Full bodied malt aroma with a touch of smoke, maybe peat, and some fruit, and brown sugar. Flavor is much like the aroma, with loads of sweet malt, more fruit, dirt, and dry red wine. At the top of its class, very full overall. No hop presence, and that is fine for the style. OSLO (826), Perth, Australia

Aroma is very nice--apple, molasses. Taste is malty, sweet, and a few other things... Palate was quite thick and very smooth. Recommended. Ofortuna (322), Grafton, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Aug 31, 2007 Wow, many thanks to Jason for this one! What a treat and great to know they’ll be making much more of this soon. Appearance of deep amber hue with a wonderfully full and rich head. An aroma that will blow anyone away. Huge, decadent toffee notes that erupt out of the glass. Deep layers of malt complexity that just take you on a ride. Wonderfully creamy mouthfeel and just the right amount of bitterness to lend enough sway to allow the caramelization to stand out. A slight amount of peat malt makes its way out next with some charred BBQ bits on the tail end. That finish just stays with you minutes after the experience has ended. Woo! I gotta get more! | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 24, 2007 Very dark mahogany in colour, long lasting large tan coloured head, great lacing. The aroma is of molasses, dark fruits, malt syrup, slight sweetness, some toffee and smoke. The flavour is very malty, lots of sweetness, very minor alcohol, smoky, peaty, molasses and some caramel. Rich mouthfeel, medium/large body, medium carbonation. Finishes long, very minor alcohol warmth, moderate sweetness. This is very good and what I picture the original to be like back in the day.
